@pettyraceway_nb • (September 23, 2015) – River Glade, NB – Petty International Raceway in River Glade, New Brunswick will honor former racer Mike Stevens in the second running of the Mike Stevens Memorial on Saturday, September 26th at 4pm.

The card will include three big features, a Pro Stock 150, a Sportsman 100 and a visit from the Atlantic Modified Tour. The event is presented in part by R. Stevens Mechanical and Carnahan Property Management.

The event is dedicated to the memory of Mike Stevens, who was lost in 2013. Stevens, from nearby Salisbury, was a fan favorite and a winner at some of the region’s biggest race tracks in his Sportsman and Pro Stock racing career. Stevens was key in helping the current ownership group of Petty International Raceway in preparing the facility for re-opening in 2011. Stevens is missed by all in the motorsports community and will be honored Saturday as the best in the region come to Petty International Raceway to compete for the Mike Stevens Memorial title.

The entry list for the Pro Stock 150 is expected to push 30 cars by race day. The talent among the over two dozen drivers entered in the race runs deep and includes Pro All Stars Series champion DJ Shaw (Center Conway, NH), five time Maritime Touring champion John Flemming (Halifax, NS), 2014 Petty Raceway Pro Stock champion Chris Duncan (Hampton, NB) and Speedway 660 Pro Stock champions Dave O’Blenis (Boundary Creek, NB), Greg Fahey (St. Stephen, NB) and current titlist Lonnie Sommerville (Barnesville, NB). Jonathan Hicken (Brudenell, PE), the winningest driver in a Pro Stock since the facility was re-opened in 2011, will be driving the #13 car for King Racing.

The previous region champions just begin to scratch the surface of the talent within the Mike Stevens Memorial Pro Stock 150. An expected entry list is included below and is subject to change without notice prior to race day.

The Petty International Raceway Sportsman division will not only contest the Mike Stevens Memorial Sportsman 100 for the pride of taking a checkered flag on a prestigious weekend, the divisional championship will be on the line. Luc Bourgeois (Memramcook, NB) leads the field into competition, but the Rodgers brothers of Smithtown, New Brunswick are both nipping at his rear bumper. Younger brother Andrew sits just three points out of the Bourgeois entry heading into Saturday’s point finale, while Matt is three points out of Andrew for second. The feature pays 50 points to win with each subsequent position being worth one point less. That means that in order to secure the point title, Bourgeois needs to finish no worse than third on Saturday, regardless what any other driver does.

The Atlantic Modified Tour will also contest their season finale as a part of the Mike Stevens Memorial. Brandon Skidmore (Springhill, NS) won the most recent round on the series last weekend at Speedway Miramichi and will look to tie down his first series championship Saturday in the final 35-lap feature of the season.

The weekend kicks off Friday night with a pre-race party at Petty International Raceway featuring a concert from country rock band Borderline. The concert begins at 8:30pm and is presented free of charge to fans and competitors by Carnahan Property Management.

There will be an open practice for competitors participating in Saturday’s Mike Stevens Memorial on Friday afternoon from 2pm to 7pm. Cost for pit admission for the practice session is $10 per person.

Saturday’s pit gates for competitors in the Mike Stevens Memorial open at 10am. Grandstand gates open for spectators at 2pm, with qualifying action beginning at 4pm. Adult grandstand admission is $30 on Saturday, youth admission (ages eight to 18) is $10 while children seven and under are admitted free of charge. Pit admission is $35.

One event remains on the 2015 Petty International Raceway schedule following the Mike Stevens Memorial. Saturday, October 10th will serve as the season finale at the track with season long champions to be crowned in the Leisure Days RV Bandolero, CMax Street Stock and Mister Transmission Mini Stock classes. A 100-lap non-point race for Sportsman competitors will also be on the card.
