PLATTSVILLE, ON- With a top-5 finish in September’s ‘Velocity 250’ still fresh in his mind, London Recreational Racing team member Shawn Chenoweth is set to return to Sunset Speedway this weekend for the first round of the OSCAAR Super Late Model Tour’s 2015 campaign.
“Sunset has turned into one of my favourite tracks lately,” admits Chenoweth. “We always love going up there, and the fact that it’s the season opener for the OSCAAR tour makes it an even bigger deal”
With limited testing at the Innisfil, ON speedplant, Chenoweth will rely heavily on the setup that earned him such a strong finish last September.
“We don’t have a ton of laps on the new Sunset in a Super Late Model, but we were quick there at the Velocity weekend last September,” says ‘The Mastodon’. “If there was one complaint I had last year was that we were too tight, and we’ve put together a brand new shock and bump stop package with the help from the guys at McColl [Racing Enterprises]. With all the changes we’ve made, I’m looking forward to seeing where we stack up against the guys on the tour”
Although Chenoweth, with the help of London Recreational Racing founder Mike Schmidt, will chase the OSCAAR Tour championship in 2015 – don’t expect the veteran to alter his race-day strategy.
“I like to consider myself a pretty simple guy – my strategy is to go into Sunset and win,” states Chenoweth matter-of-factly. “That’s going to be our strategy all year long. We want to win this points championship more than anything else in the world, but just because we’re running the tour doesn’t mean I’m going to change my driving style”
“I only know how to race flat out. That’s not to say I’m going to unload this weekend with a ‘win or wreck’ mentality – but as far as I’m concerned winning is racing”
“It’s tough to score more points than the winner,” adds the former Flamboro Speedway titlist.
When asked why he decided to return to a Super Late Model for a third time, it’s clear the respect Chenoweth has for the OSCAAR tour’s upper echelon.
“I want the chance to race against the very best guys that Ontario has to offer, and I think the OSCAAR tour is going to provide that opportunity all year long. The guys that are at the front of the field on a week-to-week basis take their programs just as seriously as we take ours – so it’s going to be interesting to see who can get the upper hand this weekend.”
Shawn Chenoweth’s return to the OSCAAR Super Late Model Tour is made possible thanks to the support of London Recreational, Bennett GM, KR Communications, Midas of Orangeville, Castrol Edge, Hitman Hotrods, Wilson Ponds, Graybar, McColl Racing Enterprises, Innerkip Plumbing and Heating, ProWraps and Automotive Truck & Tire.
