ALLENFORD, ON- Multi-time Sauble Speedway Thunder Car feature winner Todd Davenport has confirmed he will be in the field on Sunday, May 17th when Sunset Speedway plays host to the inaugural 50-lap ‘Spring Velocity’ Super Stock invitational.
After multiple seasons spent chasing points championships, Davenport has confirmed that he has a new outlook for the 2015 campaign.
“I think, far too often, guys forget that this sport is supposed to be fun,” smiles the longtime fan favourite. “I’m not one to talk – because I’ve been guilty of it in the past too. But, this season, we’re coming out to test ourselves as a team and have fun as a family”
“We’re not going to run for a championship this season. We’re going to race where we want and when we want – and we’re going to make sure that we have fun doing it”
The veteran spent time over the off-season making adjustments to his McColl Racing Enterprises-built chassis, with hopes of rejoining the upper echelon of the wildly competitive division.
“We put in quite a bit of time over the off-season just fine-tuning some of the small things,” explains Davenport. “We have a fantastic program – but I know that we can be better. That’s what we were focused on this winter”
“If you look around the Thunder Car or Super Stock pit area at any speedway, you’ll see the guys that are running up front are the perfectionists. Because the small things can turn into big things in a hurry”
“This division has never been as competitive as it is right now,” continues the former champion. “Knowing how good these guys and girls are all over Ontario is all the motivation I need to get into the shop and see what I can improve on”
When asked about his return to Sunset, it’s clear Davenport is more than ready to redeem himself after a pair of frustrating performances in 2014.
“Sunset has been a bit of an Achilles heel for us ever since we built this new car,” admits Davenport. “I’ve got to get this monkey off my back – and I’m hoping to do that this weekend”
“I know that we’re better than what we showed in our appearances at Sunset last season. I trust in my skillset and I trust in the people around me – we’ll be ready to make a push for the front on Sunday”
When asked if there are any specific drivers to keep an eye on at Sunset, Davenport surmises that the entire division has the potential to put up a fight.
“What more can you say about the competition at Sunset?,” ponders the veteran. “These guys are some of the best in the province, right now. Stepping onto their home turf and trying to beat them is not for the faint of heart. We’re going to give it absolutely everything that we have. And, if I don’t get the job done, just know that it wasn’t for a lack of trying.”
Todd Davenport’s 2015 season is presented by Elmers Flighting Supply Inc., Richards Auto Service , Ron Pringle Electric and Casmore and Co.
