SAUBLE BEACH, ON- After weeks of experimenting with setup changes, Scott McTeer found the right combination on July 5th, earning the second win of his 2014 Sauble Speedway season.
The defending Ltd. Late Model champion started in the 4th position, biding his time early on before slipping underneath early leader Dan Wright.
“Dan [Wright] and Tom Gibbons had a great battle going for the lead just in front of me”, said McTeer post-race, “I just hung back and waited for an opening. Eventually, I found a hole and was able to slip past both of them”
Once out front, McTeer controlled the remainder of the 35-lap affair, keeping his distance from his closest pursuers through the remainder of the flag-to-flag event.
“I’m grateful as anything that the race went flag-to-flag”, admitted McTeer upon clearing post-race technical inspection. “We had the right front brake caliper stick, and the pedal started to fade with about ten laps to go. If we had a late caution, I think we might have been dead in the water”
“I’ll take lucky over good any day”, added the two-time champion with a smile.
The victory is especially meaningful for McTeer’s M3 Motorsports outfit, who has worked tirelessly in recent weeks to find their footing in a rapidly intensifying Limited Late Model division.
“Our entire roster has taken their programs to the next level”, offered McTeer, “it’s as tough to win now as it’s ever been, because everyone is doing their homework and stepping their game up”
“We’ve been doing the same thing”, continued McTeer. “It’s a long process. It’s definitely not an overnight success. But, all the practice laps and hours in the shop are worth it when you end up in victory lane”
McTeer will hope to keep his momentum rolling, as he prepares for Round #1 of the Sauble vs. Sunset Home and Home Series this Saturday, July 12th.
