SAUBLE BEACH, ON- Two-time reigning and defending Sauble Speedway champion Scott McTeer tallied a runner-up finish in the opening round of the Sauble vs. Sunset ‘Home and Home Series’ on July 12th.
McTerr spent the bulk of the rain-shortened event riding in the 3rd position, and had just made his way to the runner-up spot when the decision was made to call the race due to weather.
“It would have been a great race for the lead if we could’ve restarted on the outside after that last caution”, shrugged McTeer.
“[Winner] Jason [Parker] was fast, but we were able to find some speed on the top of the track. We were too tight on the bottom. But if we could have got outside of him we might’ve made it a race”
Early on, McTeer captivated the near capacity Sauble crowd with a back-and-forth battle with defending Sunset Speedway champion Mike Bentley, as the pair of titlists tussled for third.
“For the first few laps, I thought we might’ve been faster than the guys at the front, but the car tightened up real bad about 5-laps in”, explained McTeer.
“It wasn’t until Mike [Bentley] got alongside of us that I realized how good the car was on the top of the track”, continued the multi-time champion. “I was fighting it and trying to make it work on the bottom. Then Mike got under us, and I realized the car was twice as good on the outside”
Despite owning a pair of victories at Sauble this season, McTeer admitted finding the right setup for his McGee Motor Ltd. No. 49 has been a near weekly challenge.
“Every week it seems as though we get a little bit closer to where we want it to be”, said McTeer. “The pressure is on now though, because there aren’t that many nights left on the schedule”
“We thought we had it in practice, tonight. But once we hit the track for the feature, the car tightened up again”
“We have to get the car turning better before we head to Sunset on July 26th”, continued McTeer. “The plan is to try a new spring package in the front, try something different and hope for the best”
Scott McTeer and the M3 Motorsports team will be back in action this Saturday, July 19th at Sauble Speedway. Gate times and ticket prices are available at www.SaubleSpeedway.ca.
The team’s 2014 efforts would not be possible without the continued support of Lake Huron Rod & Gun,www.SecretsOfTuscany.com, McGee Motors Ltd. and Carey Optical.
