GRIMSBY, ON- Fresh off of an 9th place finish in his second career Thunder Car appearance at Sauble Speedway on July 12th, third-generation star Cayden Lapcevich is eager to return to action at Sunset Speedway this weekend.
“We had a decent car at Sauble, we just couldn’t get the drive off of the corners that we needed in the feature”, explained Lapcevich.
“It was only my second time there, so I spent a good bulk of the evening just trying to figure out the best way to attack the track. With some more laps around there, I don’t doubt we could run inside the top-3 all night long”
In addition to valuable seat time, ‘The Prodigy’ was eager to point out just how good the quality of racing is at ‘the Beach’.
“I had a blast racing there”, smiled Lapcevich. “They have a tonne of fast cars. Talented guys that have been doing this a long time. It’s tough not to learn a thing or two from guys like Todd Davenport and Chad Eden. I’d love to go back to Sauble. Any time”
With his Sauble performance fresh in his mind, Cayden is anxiously anticipating his return to weekly competition at Sunset – and the pivotal July 19th event that could vault his Tim Hortons No. 76 Chevrolet back into championship contention.
“We had a big wreck a few weeks back that definitely hurt us as far as the points go”, explained Lapcevich, “but we were able to come out and win on July 5th which helped a lot. Now, we just need to follow that up. We’re a few points back of the lead now and just need to keep our foot on the gas”
“I don’t feel any pressure right now”, said the fourteen-year old. “In my mind, we defied the odds just getting back to the track as quick as we did after wrecking. The fact that we’re able to compete at the front is just a bonus. I’m going to come out on Saturday, and just run my race. I’m not going to keep a running tally of the points in my head. I’m just going to put my head down and go to work”.
