Stroud, ON (June 6, 2017)- Despite being involved in an early accident during the feature, Ryan Semple rebounded to post a top-five finish on Saturday night at Sunset Speedway.
Semple started off the night fast, picking up the victory in his first qualifier on the night. He then backed it up with a fourth-place finish in the second heat.
Starting 14th for the 30-lap feature, he was able to escape the first incident of the night ahead of him on Lap 5 to move up to the 11th position. Unfortunately, the restart didn’t go as he would’ve hoped. A three-wide battle near the front resulted in a car getting loose, backing up the field. Right in the middle of the pack, contact ensued, resulting in heavy front end damage for Semple. A trip down pit road under caution saw the team go immediately to work, making the necessary repairs to get him back on track for the restart.
Restarting at the back, he would make his way back up to 12th by the second caution at Lap 15. He continued moving forward, breaking into the top-10 and up to the ninth spot by Lap 22. He then barely avoided an incident ahead of him on the restart to move up to sixth with six laps to go. The progress continued, as he moved up to fourth on the restart, getting alongside Dan Archibald for third with two laps to go. He was able to clear Archibald, crossing the finish line in third.
With his third straight top-five finish to start the season, he currently sits second in points, 15 markers behind leader Jordan Howse. He will look to continue making up ground this weekend with the fourth event of the year at Sunset Speedway on June 10.
