NORWOOD, ON- Former Autumn Colours Classic winner Ryan Kimball will pilot Sean Grosman’s No. 29 this evening when the OSCAAR Super Late Model tour rolls into Peterborough Speedway.
The team has thrashed all week to repair their wounded ride after a rough outing at Sauble Speedway last Saturday, but are ready to resume their chase for the 2015 series championship.
“I’m not sure how these guys got this thing back together in time,” marvels team-owner Sean Grosman. “Josh [Gruntz], Brad [Stevenson] and Ryan have worked nonstop on this car. It was a lot of effort – and about 60 hours of work – but they managed to have it ready for tonight”
Kimball – a longtime Pro Late Model stalwart – filled the role of Crew Chief at SMG Motorsports last season and has worked closely with Grosman throughout his foray into the world of Super Late Model competition.
“Our plan, all along, was to have Ryan race the car at some point this season,” explains Grosman. “OSCAAR allows a team to utilize a fill-in driver for one night per season, so we’re going to take advantage of that. I have a family commitment that has me tied up today, so it’s going to be a lot of fun to sit back and follow Ryan’s progress from home”
For Kimball, the evening’s goals will be as much about equipment preservation as they will be about competition.
“My goal is just to leave Peterborough in one piece,” says Kimball. “The last thing we want is another week in the shop putting this car back together again. My job is going to be figuring the car out as fast as possible. I have a lot of laps on the track, and if I can get a handle for the car early on I think we can have a really good day”
When asked about the team’s chances in tonight’s 50-lap event, Kimball admits the team will enter this afternoon intent on closing the gap in the points standings entering the second half of the schedule.
“Our focus is to put together a solid points night for the team,” notes the former Peterborough Speedway champion. “This is an awesome opportunity to close the gap on the top-3 in the standings, so we’re going to come out and try to make the best of it. This is definitely a strike off the bucket list for me. And, if I can pick up a spot or two in the standings for us, that’ll be a solid night.”
