(August 5, 2014)- You may have noticed over the past several weeks that Ryan Arbuthnot and the Arbuthnot racing team has been a consistent top five car at both Mohawk International Raceway and Brockville Speedway. Over their last seven races going into the weekend, Arbuthnot had consecutive top ten results, and five of those were within the top five.
It was only a matter of time before the R70 was back in victory lane.
Mohawk International Raceway was up first on a very busy weekend schedule, and Ryan opened the night with a second place finish in his qualifier. In the 25 lap main event, he started from the ninth position and made steady progress in the opening laps. By lap eight he was inside the top five and he remained in the fifth position until a late caution regrouped the field. On the restart, Ryan was able to gain one more spot and finished in fourth.
The next stop on the schedule was back at Brockville Speedway on Saturday night. Heavy rain that fell late in the afternoon delayed the events, and it made for a very fast race track once the track was worked back into shape. Once again, Arbuthnot finished second in his qualifier, advancing from his fifth starting spot. It was a late night at the BOS, but the Modified feature hit the track with Ryan starting from the 11th position. It didn’t take long to realize he had one of the fastest cars on the track as he made his way into the top five after just a few laps. By lap nine he moved to second place, just before a caution came out. The field regrouped and Ryan quickly jumped to the lead and never looked back, dominating the rest of the event and picking up his first win since August 24th, 2013 when he won his first career DIRTcar 358 Modified event.
“It feels great to finally get back to victory lane”, says Arbuthnot. “I really have to thank all of our sponsors and the crew for all their hard work in the shop and here at the track. We have been running well the past few weeks, and hopefully we can keep it up the rest of the season”.
Cornwall Speedway was up next on Sunday night for a 100 lap Canadian Nationals Series event. Ryan was second fastest overall in the opening practice session, and posted the second fastest lap time in his group for time trials, placing him on the front row for his qualifying heat race. For the third night in a row, Arbuthnot placed second in his qualifier, and earned a spot in the redraw for a top 12 starting position. Ryan would select the 12th position and fired from the outside of row six at the drop of the green. The race got off to a slow start with a pair of serious incidents in the opening laps, but once the race got going, Arbuthnot was strong once again. Ryan moved into the top five late in the event, and went on to score a solid fourth place finish.
Steve Arbuthnot also had a great weekend with the Vintage Modified. He traveled to Brewerton Speedway on Friday night, and their sister track Fulton Speedway on Saturday night, sweeping both events.
This coming weekend, Arbuthnot will have a rare Friday night off as Mohawk is closed for the night. He will return to Brockville Speedway this Saturday night for the final round of the Ogilvie’s Triple Crown Series featuring a 60 lap event divided into three segments.
