CAYUGA, ONTARIO (July 12, 2013) – The Pro Modified Racing Association returns to the drag strip July 12-14 as part of the Canadian Nitro Nationals, one of Canada’s largest drag racing events.
The race is to be held on the Cayuga Dragway of Toronto Motorsports Park, and will be the fourth event in the 2013 PMRA tour.
PMRA fans will get a treat at this event, as the final round in the third race of the season, which was postponed from the previous race, will also be held. This final will feature Rocky Di Lecce and Rob Atchison, and if Di Lecce wins this race, he will set a new benchmark in PMRA racing three consecutive race wins.
But Di Lecce, who hails from Mississauga, Ontario, will have his work cut out for him as he takes on three-time IHRA Funny Car champion Atchison, of London Ontario, who has found his mark after making the transition from Funny Cars to Pro Modifieds.
Going into the Canadian Nitro Nationals, Di Lecce and his 1968 Camaro lead the PMRA Championship Point Award Series race at present with 855. Second is Jay Santos of Halton Hills, Ontario with 785 points, while Jack Grainy out of Basom, New York is third with 763 points.
Fourth at present is three-time PMRA champion Bruce Boland of Hamilton, Ontario, with 657 points, and rounding out the top five is Derek Hawker of Corbyville, Ontario, with 646 points.
The PMRA www.PMRA.ca, races in conjunction with its companion series, the Quick 32 Sportsman Series presented by NAPA Auto Parts www.Quick32.ca, and the Pro Bike & Sled Series presented by Wiseco Performance Products www.PBSS.ca throughout the year, presenting an exciting and colorful package of drag racing action.
Qualifying rounds for all three series will take place on Friday and Saturday, July 12-13, with eliminations scheduled to take place July 14.
Along with these three drag racing series, the Canadian Nitro Nationals will feature nitromethane-burning Top Fuel Dragsters and Nitro Funny Cars, Nitro Nostalgia Funny Cars, the NDRA Alcohol Funny Car Series, the NDRA Pro Doorslammer Series, the Outlaw 10.5 Association, racing in the Can-Am Stock/Super Stock Series, Jet Dragsters and Shockwave, a Peterbilt semi-truck powered by three jet engines.
