TORONTO, ON (June 18, 2013) – The Toyo Tires F1600 Championship Series is back at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park this weekend for the BARC Grand Prix of Ontario, for Rounds 5 and 6 of the Championship.
Ottawa, ON resident Zach Robichon grabbed the points lead in the A Class Championship with a dominant performance grabbing both poles, both wins and a very deserving nod from MK Technologies as the Driver of the Event.
After a dismal start to the season with mechanical failures in the first round former Champion Shane Jantzi was back on form and kept Robichon honest throughout the event. He should be a big factor at CTMP.
Craig Willis continues his undefeated streak by winning both rounds in Shannonville but that does not tell the whole story. Andrew Mason, making his first appearance of the season, pipped Willis for the pole and the two put on a great display of passing back and forth. Mason suffered brake problems in the first race and eventually succumbed to an engine failure on day two handing the win to Willis.
Several teams have returned to the Championship after competing in the first two rounds of Quebec’s Formula Tour. Exclusive Autosport will be back with 3 cars entered for the ultra fast pilots Thomas McGregor, Jack Mitchell Jr., and Maxwell Hanratty. Jesse Lazare is also entered in a Britain West prepared car.
In B Class Connor Wagland and Mike Lee will continue to fight Craig Willis for the top spot in the Championship but Graham Lobban, who joined the series in Shannonville will also be strong. JG Fournier will be making his first start.
“This will be a tremendously competitive weekend,” said Jason Sharpe, promoter for the series. “We welcome back some of the best talent in the country and know the racing will be incredible. These kids at the front are learning their craft quickly but I would keep my eye on veteran Jantzi as well. He is so experienced and is ready to get back to form this weekend,” he added.
Cars will hit the track on Friday for a full day of testing and the racing will begin with Round 1 on Saturday and Round 2 on Sunday afternoon.
