STROUD, ON (September 18, 2017)- Despite the night not starting off as warranted, the Spencer-Walt Motorsports team worked hard to complete the season with a top-10 finish on Saturday night at Sunset Speedway.
Rick Spencer-Walt would initially qualify 12th for the first 35-lap feature, laying down a lap of 15.362 seconds. However, he would fail to start the event as the crew worked to make the necessary repairs following a mechanical failure at the end of the session.
Due to missing the first feature, Spencer-Walt was then forced to start at the back – 15th – for the second feature later on that night. From there, he carefully began to make his way forward, running 11th as of Lap 9. He would then get alongside Mike Wilkinson for 10th at the halfway mark, breaking into the top-half of the field three laps later. He continued to move forward, making a couple more passes in the final laps to cross the finish line in eighth.
Despite Saturday night not going as planned, the season was still memorable for Spencer-Walt Motorsports, picking up five victories, 19 top-fives, and 22 top-10’s in 28 nights of points competition at Sunset Speedway. Rick Spencer-Walt will complete the season scored third in the final standings, with a possible top-10 in the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series (NWAAS) points, pending Thursday’s update. The NWAAS puts Sunset’s drivers up against competitors from 60 different tracks across North America, with each driver earning points based on their finishes at NASCAR-sanctioned tracks.
They also have been victorious in invitationals, winning both the Spring Velocity and the Chase for the Colours. With the pair of long-distance victories, they enter the short track playoffs, confident for success.
