BOWMANVILLE, ON (May 19, 2019)- Andrew Ranger and the #27 Mopar Parts Dodge team opened up the 2019 NASCAR Pinty’s Series racing season with a typically strong outing at the famed Canadian Tire Motorsport Park road course this past Sunday. Ranger was among the front-runners all day and claimed a second place finish.
During the Saturday practice and qualifying sessions Ranger showed plenty of the speed in the #27 Mopar Parts Dodge and claimed the fifth starting position for the Sunday afternoon race.
“I was pretty happy with the car and felt good for the race,” said Ranger.
When the action began Sunday Ranger was on the charge quickly moving the #27 Mopar Parts Dodge toward the front of the field. A total of five caution periods slowed the field throughout the race making strategy choices difficult. The team decided to take the opportunity to make their scheduled tire change during a caution period before the midpoint of the race.
“It turned out in the end that the strategy we tried, it might have been a bit too early for us to stop,” stated Ranger.
In the second half of the race Ranger again pushed the #27 Mopar Dodge toward the front of the field and took over the race lead on lap 40. Following the final caution a late race restart set up a three-lap fight for the win and another showdown between Ranger and the #74 car.
Heading to the final lap the #27 Mopar Parts Dodge fell back from top spot but Ranger continued to push for another chance to get back in front before the checkered flag.
“I tried to get by Kevin (Lacroix) again, it was a bit like last year but I didn’t want to take too big a risk, he did a good job so we have to settle for second place”.
“It’s a good start to the season to get second place points, good for the championship. I want to thank all the guys for a great job, the whole Mopar team, my crew chief Dave Wight and all our sponsors”.
