WETASKIWIN, AB (July 28, 2018)- Andrew Ranger and the #27 Mopar Parts Dodge team looked to regroup after a disappointing start to the annual NASCAR Pinty’s Series western swing. For round number seven at Edmonton International Raceway on Saturday night what looked to be a promising night turned into an evening of exasperation.
Ranger would qualify the #27 Mopar Parts Dodge in the fifth starting spot and felt positive about his opportunities in the 300-lap feature event.
“The car felt good but we don’t see the full potential in just a couple of laps, we were set up to be good for longer runs” the driver explained.
Soon after the green flag waved Ranger was hustling the #27 Mopar Parts Dodge forward in the field and had climbed up to second in the running. A recurrence of the power steering issues that surfaced at the previous event caused Ranger some inconvenience but he was dealing with it.
“I wasn’t slowing anyone else down, I was working through it,” he stated.
For a couple of laps there was some smoke coming from the car which prompted NASCAR officials show Ranger the black flag and ordered him to bring the #27 Mopar Parts Dodge to pit road to survey the problem. By the time Ranger had made his way to the pits the smoke was no longer an issue. However officials ordered him to make a second stop to ensure the problem was resolved.
As a result of two mandated green flag pit stops the #27 Mopar Parts Dodge was out of contention for any kind of meaningful result.
“That was it for us” said a frustrated driver afterwards. “The smoke was gone after a couple of laps, there was no fluid leaking on the track, but we had to stop. I don’t understand it. I was the one who had to struggle with the car but I wasn’t getting in the way of anyone else. It’s very discouraging to have this kind of ruling against us,” he added.
Andrew Ranger will next be behind the wheel of the #27 Mopar Parts Dodge team at the Grand Prix of Trois-Rivieres. Ranger is a four-time winner of this event and has been the runner up seven other times that he has raced this event.
The races from Saskatoon can be seen on TSN Saturday August 11that 1:30PM ET.
