PORT COLBORNE, ON- Steven Petty offers his race report from the New Humberstone Speedway for August 18, 2013.

“The Natural” Dale Planck from Cortland, NY was victorious in the DIRTcar Modified feature event at the New Humberstone Speedway on Dilts Piston Hydraulics night. BJ Willard from St. Catharines, Ontario claimed his second straight win in the Cosco Haulage DIRTcar Sportsman. Jorden Peters from Stevensville, Ontario claimed the victory for the Peters Excavating UMP/DIRTcar Late Models. Defending Mike Knapp Ford Pro 4 Truck Champion Mike Toovey from St. Catharines, Ontario won his first Pro 4 Truck feature of the season. Evan Curtis from Port Colborne, Ontario won in the Trackside Decals Mini Stocks and Olivier Larocque from Port Colborne, Ontario took top honors in the Frontier Auto Dismantler Pure Stocks. Karl Sault was victorious in the 30 lap Eve of Destruction Enduro qualifier.

“The Real Deal” Chris Steele and “The Natural” Dale Planck led the DIRTcar Modifieds to the green flag for their 30 lap feature event and it was Planck showing the way. Steele was in second while Erick Rudolph raced his way into third with Mike Bowman and Chad Chevalier. After a lap nine restart, Planck continued to show the way after Rudolph moved into second place. Planck going through lap traffic and Rudolph reeled in Planck. The Snyder Industries sponsored racer of Rudolph, who won the Alex Friesen Summer Nationals on Friday evening, tried everything in his power to reel in Planck. But Planck, racing in his big block, was able to pick up the victory.

Jordan Cosco and Matt Sharpe led the DIRTcar Sportsman to the green flag for their feature event and it was Cosco showing the way. Joey Mastrioanni raced his way into second and Jeff Armstrong was able to take over the race lead on lap nine. BJ Willard was able to get around the Cosco machine to move into the runner up spot on lap 10. After a mid-race restart, Willard was able to pull away from the rest of the field. Point’s leader Gary Lindberg raced his way through the field and was battling with the leaders but settled for a third place finish at races end. Willard would hold off a hard charging Austin Wood to claim his second consecutive victory.

Jorden Peters and Tim Gillespie led the Peters Excavating Late Models to green and it was Peters showing the way. Mark Czuba lost the handle to bring out one of three cautions during the 20 lap feature event. Off the mid-race restart, Peters was able to maintain his advantage over the field with Paul Grigsby and Rob Pietz running in second and third for much of the feature distance. Peters pulled away from Grigsby and Pietz to claim his second win of the season.

Adam Nichols and Colton Ledingham led the Mike Knapp Ford Pro 4 Trucks to the green flag and it was Nichols showing the way. After an early restart, Mike Toovey raced his way to the lead and then held off a hard charging Colton Ledingham and Taylor Vanderzanden to pick up his first victory of the season. Ledingham would edge out Vanderzanden for second with Sam Pennacchio and Danny Wurster completing the top five.

Kurtis Wiley and Brandon Iudiciani led the Trackside Decals Mini Stocks to the green flag with Wiley showing the way. After Iudiciani came together with a couple of cars and fell back early on, giving third place starter Evan Curtis the race lead early on. Once Curtis got up front, he quickly pulled away from the rest of the field and Curtis was able to hang on and pick up the popular victory.

Marcel Beauregard and Mason Smith led the Frontier Auto Dismantler Pure Stocks to the green flag for their feature event and it was Beauregard showing the way. Olivier Larocque took over the lead on lap four and never looked back as he held off Kyle Tomaski to pick up the win.

HUMBERSTONE NOTES: Car count report for Sunday August 18th: 16 Modifieds, 22 Sportsman, 10 Late Models, 17 Mini Stocks, 11 Pro 4 Trucks and 9 Pure Stocks for a total of 85 cars pitside. The final checkered flag flew over the Enduro field at 9:23pm.

Racing returns to the Port Colborne oval on Sunday August 25th as CAA Niagara presents the final appearance of the season for the DIRTcar Modifieds. The Sportsman, Street Stocks, Pro 4 Trucks, Mini Stocks, Pure Stocks plus an Eve of Destruction Enduro Qualifier will round out the racing program. The Late Models will have the evening off. Gates will open at 4:00pm for both the pits and the grandstands and racing will begin at 6:00pm sharp.
