STROUD, ON (May 9, 2018)- With a lot of change entering the new season, it has started off on a solid note for Paul Maltese with a top-10 on opening night at Sunset Speedway.
The veteran qualified well, driving a solid first 35-lap feature to kick off the season as he battled side-by-side with some of the heavy weights of the division. The team’s hard work paid off, with Maltese scoring a ninth-place finish.
The second feature started off more promising, with Maltese starting on the front. He would run in the top-five through the first six laps, running sixth as of the third caution at Lap 12. On the restart, he’d battle with eventual feature winner Nick Goetz for fifth, though ultimately faded back to sixth by Lap 18. He would get a good restart with 14 laps to go, moving back into the top-five. It looked as though the team would walk away with a fifth-place finish, however, Maltese would find a bit of bad luck, crossing the finish line in 11th.
The team will re-group and hope to get back into the top-10 once again on Saturday, May 12 for the first 60-lap feature of the season.
