KESWICK, ON- When Paul Geniole Jr. returns to action at Sunset Speedway this Saturday, August 30th, he’ll likely do so with an added bounce in his step. The young Super Stock veteran took advantage of a Sunset off-night on August 23rd, travelling to Peterborough Speedway for the first time this season and notching a 3rd place finish in a very tough field of weekly regulars.
“Stepping outside of our comfort zone, and earning a top-3 finish was a huge boost of confidence”, said Geniole.
“We don’t have a lot of laps at Peterborough, so we didn’t really know what to expect”, continued the well-spoken youngster. “It was a pleasant surprise. The car responded exactly the way we had hoped it would”
With a podium finish in hand, Geniole is ready to return to weekly competition at Sunset on August 30th, with hopes of attaining his first victory of the 2014 season.
“We’ve had a really good car all season, we just haven’t been able to breakthrough for that feature win”, explained Geniole. “I feel as though our team is at the point where we’re improving every week – but so is the competition. We know that we just need to keep digging, and the results will follow”
The Keswick, ON native will enter the penultimate night of Sunset Super Stock competition sitting 4th in points, and an opportunity to slip into the top-3 with a strong performance Saturday night.
“I think a top-3 in points is entirely within our reach”, said Geniole confidently. “We’re a small team, but we’ve got a fantastic program. We just need to bring everything together. There’s 11 points keeping us out of the top-3 right now. Hopefully we can close that gap this weekend”
As quick as Geniole is to outline his hopes for the weekend, he’s even quicker to credit those who make his program a reality.
“I don’t think I could ever thank my Dad enough for what he does for my racing”, said Geniole. “Most nights it’s just me and him in the shop. We’re never going to out-dollar anyone, but we make it work. None of this would happen if it wasn’t for him. For all the effort that he puts in, I’d love nothing more than to thank him with a trip to victory lane”
