PETERBOROUGH, ON – The OSCAAR Modifieds and Hot Rods were in action at Peterborough Speedway on July 25, where Matt Haufe and Tyler Hawn scored the victories.
Matt Haufe Scores First Career OSCAAR Modified Victory at Peterborough
In a historic night for the Overkill Enterprise OSCAAR Modifieds, where the series ran its 150th race, a driver was able to write a page of his own in the record book.
Matt Haufe became the 36th different feature winner with the Modifieds in scoring his first career series victory at Peterborough Speedway on Saturday, July 25.
The Legend standout showed speed throughout both rounds of qualifying, setting him up to take The Car Guy Auto Service green flag from third for the feature. He found his way to second off the drop of the green flag. He would inherit the lead when an incident happened ahead of him just past the halfway mark of the feature. Haufe then held off a hard-charging couple competitors behind him en route to visiting Scott Reinhart Trailer Sales Ltd victory lane.
Rick Burbridge’s rookie season in the Modifieds continued in stellar fashion with his third-straight podium finish, taking a runner-up ahead of past Peterborough Speedway winner Wally Wilson. Steve Trendell showed the same speed that led him to take home the EPIC Racewear checkered flag last season with a fourth as Bryan Batty completed the top-five.
Jason Keen was sixth ahead of Max Beyore and Eric McLean. Beyore led the first half of the feature from the pole before tangling with McLean as he tried to lap him. Norman Newman, who was filling in for Dale Reinhart, was ninth in front of Brent McLean.
Daryl Henwood showed speed with a heat win, but mechanical issues ended his feature early. Amanda Balson’s return to the track after her wreck during practice at Sauble Speedway saw her fight through mechanical issues throughout the night en route to 12th ahead of Josh Gruntz.
Heat wins went to Bryan Batty, Max Beyore, Daryl Henwood, and Steve Trendell. The Overkill Enterprise OSCAAR Modifieds are back on-track on Saturday, August 22 at Full Throttle Motor Speedway.
Tyler Hawn Dominates OSCAAR Hot Rod Feature at Peterborough Speedway
Starting on the front row, Tyler Hawn grabbed the lead shortly after The Car Guy Auto Service green flag and did not look back en route to winning The Fyre Place & Patio Shop OSCAAR Hot Rods presented by Bromley Automotive feature at Peterborough Speedway.
The defending series champion showed speed throughout the day, with a pair of top-fives in the qualifying heats, but ultimately sealed his fate with the top-six qualifier re-draw. He then ran side-by-side with Lane Zardo for a couple laps before securing the top spot. From there on, nobody touched the rear bumper of the No. 2 Pontiac Beaumont en route to Knightworks Design victory lane.
Rookie Jacob Booth found his way to second and looked to begin to close the gap between himself and Hawn, though he was unable to make his way by. It marks a career-best for the current Rookie of the Year Point Standings leader.
Veteran Tom Walters showed speed en route to third ahead of polesitter Zardo and Daniel Hawn.
Trevor Thompson was sixth in front of Steve Book, Rob Bromley, Thomas Wunsch, and Rob Poole. Wunsch had to rebound as he was involved in a pair of incidents in the first seven laps, including a slide through the frontstretch grass after contact. Poole, meanwhile, went for a spin at the end of his first qualifier but rebounded to win the second heat.
Ryan Cowan placed 11th despite going for a slide through the frontstretch grass, while Ayden McNicol was 12th after having to change a motor in the pits due to going up in smoke during the first round of qualifying. Ben McPherson battled mechanical gremlins through practice en route to 13th, while Kevin Cornelius fell out of the event early as a result of contact in the opening laps.
Heat wins went to Tom Walters, Rob Poole, and Thomas Wunsch (x2). The Fyre Place & Patio Shop OSCAAR Hot Rods presented by Bromley Automotive are back in action at Brighton Speedway on Saturday, August 8.
