July 12th
Delaware Speedway
‘The Big Game Hunter’ Jesse Kennedy returned to Pro Late Model competition at his hometrack for yet another extended-distance victory on Friday night. The Southwold, ON driver slipped past Shawn Thompson on lap-43 to go on to win the 75-lap main event. Thompson held on for the 2nd spot, with returning divisional champion Mark Watson completing the podium finishers.
In Super Stock competition, Jeff Showler won the 1st ever 34-lap Jamie Ramsay Memorial, followed across the line by Kenny McNichol, Kris Lawrence, Matt Robblee and Shae Gemmell.
Steve Arrand won the evening’s V8 Stock Muscle Car feature event.
July 13th
Barrie Speedway
‘The Hillsdale Hurricane’ Thayne Hallyburton continued his incredible run through the Barrie Speedway Ltd. Late Model division on July 13th. Just 7 days after winning both features in Barrie’s mid-season championship event, Hallyburton once again went to victory lane in the first of the division’s twin-30 lap events. The sophomore would appear poised for another week of double-down wins, but was unable to slip past Ron Quesnelle in the nightcap, settling for 2nd behind the former divisional champion.
‘The Deuce’ Dave Doucette picked up his 2nd win of the 2013 season in the night’s Thunder Car feature, fellow former track champion Darryl St. Onge was 2nd, with point leader Travis Hallyburton, Jim Beleskey and Bill Walt completing the top-5.
Second-generation driver Justin Holmes won the entry level Pure Stock division feature.
Peterborough Speedway
Cory Horner earned his first career Ltd. Late Model feature at Peterborough Speedway on July 13th, holding off multi-time winner Craig Graham and cousin Jack Horner for the honor.
Sunset Speedway
Defending Ltd. Late Model track champion Stompin’ Tom Walters won Round 2 of the Sauble vs Sunset ‘Home and Home Series’ on July 13th. The Bradford, ON stalked 7-time champion ‘Mr. Excitement’ Chris Morrow for over 20-laps, before finally creeping past with a handful of laps remaining. Morrow would settle for 2nd, while reigning Autumn Colours Classic champion Dwayne Baker would rebound from a blown motor on July 6th to finish in the third position.
Super Stock ace Smokin’ Joe Adams represented Sauble in victory lane, followed by Sunset point leader Randy Rusnell and Sauble’s Ken Grubb.
Sauble Speedway’s Kevin Bridge won the Mini Stock event.
Lucas Oil Canadian Vintage Modifieds
Veteran Jeff Shaw won July 13th’s event at Flamboro Speedway, followed by Rick Schurr and John Karley.
Lucas Oil Sportsman Cup
Series point leader Shawn McGlynn won the last ever LOSC event to be contested at Bowmanville, ON’s Canadian Tire Motorsport Park. Capturing the lead on lap-19, McGlynn would survive a torrent of late-race restarts, eventually forming a lead of over an entire straightaway, for his 2nd win of the 2013 season. Former CTMP regular Amanda Connolly claimed 2nd, with Josh Wood rounding out the top-3.
Lucas Oil TQ Can-Am Midgets
Corey Moesker earned his 2nd Can-Am Midgets win of the season on July 13th, as part of Flamboro Speedway’s ‘Open Wheel Extravaganza’ event. Moesker moved into third place in the point standings with the victory. Fan favourite Mack Deman earned a second place finish, Barry Dunn was third followed by Rob Neely and Adrian Stahle.
OSCAAR Modified Tour
David McCullough won his first career OSCAAR Modified Tour event at Sauble Speedway on July 13th. The former Delaware Speedway regular utilized his pole starting position to stay in contention all race long, battling with defending tour champion Gary McLean for the lead. McCullough would clear McLean on lap-7, and hold on for the victory with McLean close behind in 2nd spot. Brent McLean would finish in the third position.
OSCAAR Super Late Model Tour
In just his 5th career OSCAAR Super Late Model start, former Delaware Speedway champion Andrew Gresel earned his first career tour victory. The Hepworth, ON driver, piloting a 2013 Hamke chassis, led all 50-laps in a dominating performance. Former tour champion Derrick Tiemersma turned in a runner-up finish – his 3rd podium of the season – and impressive Rookie of the Year contender Kevin Cornelius completed his third straight top-3 finish.
