Fitzpatrick plans to make his 2013 tour debut when OSCAAR heads to Canadian Tire Motorsports Park for Round 2 of their campaign on June 1. •
COLE POWELL: Mount Brydges, ON native Cole Powell (above, at New Smyrna) will be in action south of the border this weekend, when the NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour opens its 2013 effort at Asheboro, NC’s Caraway Speedway.
Powell will be one of four rookies entered in Saturday’s event, and will no doubt look to build on an impressive showing at the inaugural Daytona Int’l Speedway ‘Battle at the Beach’ event in February. There, Powell rebounded from a rather inauspicious start, to compile a head-turning eighth-place come-from-behind finish. •
MATT SPENCE: 2012 Kawartha Speedway Thunder Car titlist Matt Spence (above) will compete full-time in the newly reinstated Peterborough Speedway Thunder Car division in 2013.
‘The Bearcat’ enjoyed a ‘career year’ in 2012, capturing his first career championship in only his second full season of competition at Kawartha. The Ballieboro, ON driver will return to Peterborough for the first time since the 2005 season.
Spence’s 2013 efforts will enjoy support from Sellmunity, Durham Furnace Heating & Cooling, Graphic Lettering and NAPA Pineridge Auto Supply. •
DALE SHAW: 2012 Flamboro Speedway Late Model Rookie of the Year Dale Shaw (above) has announced he will return to fulltime competition in 2013, in search of his first career track championship.
The second-generation wheelman will spend the season behind the wheel of a brand new, in-house-built Shaw Motorsports chassis. The former Mini Stock standout will once again campaign as a teammate to his father, 2012 division champion Jason Shaw.
The team’s 2013 marketing partners include UMi Solutions, CRT Towing, Lucas Oil Products Co., Plasti-Kote, Wix Filters, Affinia Canada ULC, Gunk, Canada Radiator Specialties, Fleet Image, Roof Trusses & Components Ltd., Georgetown Printing, Waverdale Fleet Service, Rob’s Automotive Service, Lisa Lott, JS Construction, Bruce Bennett Jr., Samester and Promark Tool and Manufacturing.
Shaw’s 2013 on-track debut occur May 4, when Flamboro’s Late Model division takes to the track for the first time. •
SHANE STICKEL: The OSCAAR Modified tour has reported that 2012 Canadian Vintage Modified Tour champion Shane Stickel (above, from 2012) will compete for their 2013 Rookie of the Year title, alongside fellow rookies Max Beyore and Bobby Tolton.
Stickel, a multi-time karting champion, claimed CVM Rookie of the Year honors in 2010, en route to his championship-winning 2012 campaign. The Kitchener, ON native will enter 2013 with support from MSD Machine Tool, SpeedwayPhoto.ca, Shelane Properties, Paragon Collision Centre, MAC Contracting, Jungle Cat Designs, Huron Fasteners Inc., Creative Edge and Abtech CAD/CAM. •
