Ontario Modifieds Series Teams Take a 2nd Shot at the 2019 Season Opener

PETERBOROUGH, ON (June 3, 2019)- Mother Nature was all that stood between drivers with the Ontario Modifieds Racing Series powered by Torque Builders Inc. and a perfectly good time. A rainout may have cancelled events Saturday, May 25th at Peterborough Speedway, but as it has been said so many times before, “the show must go on”. Teams with the popular open-wheeled racing tour will get another chance to open the 2019 schedule on Saturday, June 8th at the venue known as Canada’s Toughest 1/3-Mile Paved Oval. Series spokesperson Rick Warnes says the postponement was a bit of a double edged sword.

“Some of our teams were ready to roll for the original date; but not everyone,” said Warnes – who along with Randy Hollingsworth and Bill Pickford – make up the OMRS group of officials. “A quick check of some of the social media platforms has shown exactly what’s happening with some of our runners.”

After a couple of years away, Alex Lees – who has been to victory lane with the group and has a rich Peterborough Speedway history – has announced plans to share a car with his twin brother Nick. Willow Barberstock, a former 4Fun/Bone Stock track champion – one of the crowd favourites in the line-up – can’t wait to get to the track and climb back behind the wheel of her #62w machine, while Port Perry’s Alex Cuzilla, who made a start in last year’s season finale – a graduate of the Test a Mod program – is expected to put in a full schedule of action with his #50 ride. Warnes says it’ll be great to get the new season underway.

“I had the chance to cross an item off my personal bucket list and race in Florida earlier this year, but the local scene is what its all about for our drivers and teams,” Rick Warnes said. “The first race of the year is something we all look forward to.”
