August 12, 2014- It’s the type of motorsports experience that fits perfectly with Peterborough Speedway’s Hot August Saturday Night Racing Series.  The open wheeled excitement that is the Ontario Modifieds Racing Series returns to Canada’s Toughest 1/3-Mile Paved Oval Saturday, August 16 as part of the year’s final Toonie Spectator Grandstand Admission/Fan Appreciation Night, presented by Pepsi.

After four events on this year’s schedule – one at Flamboro and three so far at Peterborough – the point chase for the 2014 OMRS championship is tight:

#95 – Robert Warnes- 241
#09 – Nick Lees- 235
#77 – Chad Strawn / Brad Stevenson- 218
#90 – Rick Warnes- 206
#65 – Bill Burrows- 198
#61 – Bill Pickford- 196
#62 – Randy Hollingsworth- 194
#07 – Alex Lees- 164
#88 – Ryan Dick- 142

The OMRS operation is a very close-knit community.

Current point leader Robert Warnes’ father, Rick, is a series founder and sits fifth in the standings.  Chad Strawn, who won the year’s first event at Flamboro Speedway shares the driving duties with family friend Brad Stevenson. Strawn’s father, Brian – himself a former open wheeled modified racer – handles the duties of crew chief.  Point standing runner-up Nick Lees, captured the checkered flag at this year’s first Peterborough event, while his twin brother Alex is the series’ most recent winner.  Another member of the executive committee, Randy Hollingsworth is seventh in the point standings and serves as crew chief and mentor for his granddaughter Willow Barberstock – an OMRS development program driver – who competes in the Battlefield Equipment 4Fun division at Peterborough Speedway.
