This weekend on Cayuga Dragway at Toronto Motorsports Park, the annual, massive Nitro Nationals takes to the track! One of Canada’s biggest racing weekends of the year, the Nitro Nationals will have a huge variety and field of racing machines. The action starts Friday, June 28 and runs through Sunday, June 30.

SHOCKWAVE is equipped with 3 huge J34-48 Pratt & Whitney Jet Engines originally out of the USA Navy T2 Buckeye. The combined horsepower is 36,000! These 3 Jet Engines make a total of 21,000 lbs of thrust which easily propels this truck to speeds over 350 mph while racing planes at air shows all over North America!

Shockwave is not only the most powerful truck in the world, it also holds the record speed for Semi Trucks at 376 mph! As one of the most popular air show and drag racing exhibition vehicles in the world, the Shockwave performance is a MUST SEE! This is truly an assault of all of your senses with huge flames coming out of the 3 after burning jet engines, fire shooting out of the smoke stacks, intense heat, deafening noise, and SPEED!

Shockwave is owned by Darnell Racing Enterprises Inc, based in Springfield, MO and driven by Chris Darnell. Hellfire: The world’s fastest frightliner jet truck. Powered by a massive General Electric J-79, the largest jet engine allowed in Drag Racing. Capable of speeds close to 220mph, the truck is now Canadian owned by Russ Lethbridge.

NITRO FUNNY CARS: The fastest vehicles in the world. Supercharged Nitromethane fueled 10,000+hp. Reaching 339mph in 3.79 seconds in a 1000ft. Characterized by having tilt-up fiberglass or carbon fiber bodies over a custom-fabricated chassis. The engine is located in front of the car. The fuel system is fundamental to their immense power. During a single run (starting, burnout, backing up, staging, 1/4 mile) Nitro Funny cars can burn as much as 15 gallons of fuel.

TOP FUEL DRAGSTERS: The quickest accelerating and the fastest cars in drag racing. Achieving 336mph in 3.62 seconds in a 1000ft. Pulling 6 g’s under acceleration which is faster than a space shuttle at launch, reaching speeds over 100 mph in 0.8 seconds (don’t blink because you will miss it). They run on Nitromethane fuel.

ALCOHOL FUNNY CARS: Alcohol Funny Cars might not be quite as quick as their Nitro Fueled counterparts, but don’t let that fool you. They are a whole lot tougher to drive. Supercharged (“blown”) engines, burning alcohol (methanol). And they have a similar look as the Nitro Funny Cars.

NITRO HARLEYS: Insane 2,000+ hp Nitro Harleys! Running 6 seconds in the ¼ mile at over 220 mph with fire gushing from the pipes. These beasts can run on 100% Nitromethane.

WHEEL STANDERS: Wheel-standers, in drag racing, are cars designed to complete a pass in a wheel-stand (wheels near vertical). For a typical run, the front wheels are about 10 feet off the ground as the car travels a quarter mile at roughly 110 miles per hour. Rick Ream owns and drives this 1950 Bullet Nose Studebaker Wheel-Standing Firetruck. He has about 15 controls to be mindful of in addition to other elements like wind that could dictate which direction he needs to steer.

JET DRAGSTER: Neale Armstrong’s “The Northern Warrior,” a 300 mph Jet Dragster, powered by an F-5 Fighter Jet engine.

There will also be a full line-up of Pro Mods, Top Sportsman and Top Dragsters.
