@NGMotorsports24 • @PtboSpeedway • SOUTHAMPTON, ON – Sunset Speedway regular Nick Goetz is ready for his third career Autumn Colours Classic appearance. Courtesy of his ‘Chase for the Colours’ victory in June, the up-and-comer will sit on the pole for the 75-lap Ltd. Late Model A-Main, with hopes of earning his first career ‘Classic’ win.
“It’s an honour to be the pole sitter for the Autumn Colours Classic,” says Goetz when asked about the weekend. “It’s also a huge weight off of our mind. The elite of the Ltd. Late Model division try to qualify for this event, knowing that we’re locked into the show will help us rest a little easier Friday and Saturday night.”
Prior to ‘Livewire’s win in June, he had competed only twice at Peterborough. And though he still lacks experience at the demanding 1/3-mile oval, Goetz is confident his team will continue to surprise.
“I don’t think anyone expected us to win the ‘Chase’,” shrugs Goetz. “Anything can happen. We’ve got great equipment and I have an incredible team around me. I don’t have anywhere close to the amount of laps that some of the veterans do, but we’re constantly improving.”
“We finished 20th at this event last year,” continues Goetz. “So long as we improve on that – even by a single position – I’ll be a happy man.”
Goetz will enter the event fresh off of an 8th place finish at Sunset Speedway’s ‘Velocity 250’ invitational on September 28th, and hopes the momentum will carry over into Peterborough’s 75-lap A Main on Sunday.
“I was incredibly proud of our run at the Velocity,” says Goetz. “We ran up front for the entirety of the event, and were able to hold off some pretty talented drivers. I don’t see any reason why we can’t keep that up at Peterborough.”
“As long as we take care of our tires and brakes, we should have something for the top-5 when the laps start to matter.”
