On October 21, Nexen Tire CEO Lee Hyun-bong announced that the company has won a ‘Special Mention’ at the German Design Award 2014; an internationally renowned design awards ceremony. The award is particularly significant in that it is the first time any Korean tire maker has won it.
The German Design Award is presided over by the German Design Council, a state-funded institute established in 1953 and directly overseen by the German parliament. Dubbed the “award of awards,” each year it sees a host of award-winning products sporting the best in global design compete with each other for the ultimate accolade.
At the event, there were over 1,900 entries from a total of 10 categories including home interior, lifestyle, work space and transportation. Though the competition was tight, Nexen’s N9000 was highly evaluated for its dynamic design with a lightning motif and won a Special Mention in the transportation category.
N9000 is a sports tire for street racers who want great style and performance in their tires and to enjoy speed. The design pattern of the area that comes into contact with the road surface realizes optimal grip and enables excellent handling and steering stability even when driven at high speeds.
Having already captured the world’s attention by winning the Red Dot Design Award (Germany) last year, the N9000 has once again proven its design excellence with its triumph at the German Design Award this year. The winner of a Special Mention, the N9000 will be exhibited at Ambiente 2014, which will be held in Frankfurt in February next year.
“We have now won renowned international design awards back-to-back, and I see this achievement as an opportunity for Nexen Tire to take the next step forward with our product competitiveness. We will continue to strive to develop superior products with specialized design and functions,” said Han Min-hyeon, the R&D director of Nexen Tire.
