COOKSTOWN, ON- Following a pair of victories and a runner-up finish in the final three events of the 2015 season, Nick Ledson is now a three time Ontario Legends Series champion.
The Cookstown, ON driver entered the final race of the schedule at Peterborough Speedway on August 29th leading veteran Kevin Foisy by a single point. Ultimately, a win in the season finale allowed Ledson to solidify his third straight championship and provided the ideal stage for him to announce to move out of the Legends division in 2016.
“It still hasn’t sunk in, to be honest,” admitted Ledson days later. “I think it’ll be a while before it does. Climbing out of the car on Saturday night was such a surreal feeling. Knowing how much work went into this and how badly we all pulled together to make it happen made it feel so much more intense. This was, by far, the most gratifying championship of my career”
“I can’t say enough about Kevin Foisy,” continued the 2015 champion. “That man is a beast. He’s one of the absolute best in the country. Racing with him week in and week out was a pleasure – but it wasn’t easy. He forced our whole team to take things to a level we didn’t even know we had in us. We never stopped working to find ways to keep up with him”
Since debuting in a Legends car midway through the 2012 season, Ledson quickly established himself as one of the top series racers in the country. When asked about the depth of talent on the current roster, Ledson was quick to praise just how far the Ontario series has come in a short amount of time.
“It feels like every season we’ve raced a Legends car has been more difficult than the last,” explains Ledson. “It’s awesome to see how the level of competition has improved in the last three seasons. Guys have really stepped their game up, and it’s made the quality of racing better and better. I’ve never had to fight harder for inches on the racetrack than I did this season. And I wouldn’t want it any other way”
When asked about his future plans, Ledson explained that nothing concrete has been established, and his team is instead opting on focusing on their next race at Grand Bend Speedway on September 12th before moving forward with any additional arrangements.
“We have a whole bunch of ideas for next season and things that we want to try, but nothing’s set in stone yet,” says the well-spoken 19-year old. “It’s looking like we’ll be moving out of the Legends car into something a little heavier. It’s exciting – but right now all I’m focusing on is getting to Grand Bend and parking in victory lane. Once we do that, we can think a little harder about where we want to take this team next season.”
