ST. JOHN’S (May 15, 2014) – Targa Newfoundland competitors in the Grand Touring, Open or Modern competition have extra incentive to do well, thanks to $9,000 in cash awards posted by MINI Canada.
Drivers of MINI models who win one of those categories can take home $3,000 as part of the company’s Canadian Contingency Awards Program. It is the third year MINI, part of the BMW Group in Canada, has made cash available to Targa competitors.
The national program also posts awards for MINI drivers involved in the Canadian Touring Car Championship road race series.
MINI scored its first international motorsport win at Targa Newfoundland in 2004.
“Motorsports is an important pillar for MINI. The heritage of the brand, and its continued success in modern day competitions are indicative of the performance oriented products we pride ourselves on. The Contingency Award Program is designed to encourage and reward the skilled drivers in one of our exciting vehicles,” said Adam Shaver, Director of MINI Canada.
“This is the kind of support that directly reaches our competitors and helps reward the preparation and determination that Targa demands,” added Targa organizer Robert Giannou. “MINI has been involved with Targa in one way or another since 2003, and this association is one we value a great deal.”
