May 22, 2013- The final results were not what Jon Mills and the Hot Lick Racing team had envisioned over the first couple weeks of the season. A flat tire early in the race on opening night, and some unexpected handling issues this past Saturday night in the opening Seaway Sportsman Series event at Brockville relegated the team to disappointing finish. Mills also had plans to race at Cornwall Speedway on Sunday night.
The night had started out well for Mills, posting the third fastest speed in his qualifying group in the time trial session. He then turned that into a strong second place finish in his qualifying heat race. Mills stared the 40 lap feature from seventh place and ran well through the first half, holding his own amongst some of the Sportsman elite. The handling of the car started to dissipate over the final 20 laps, and Jon crossed the finish line with a disappointing 14th place finish.
“We started off running well, but the car just went away on us in the second half”, says Mills. “We later discovered that the torsion bars were starting to go away. We will get that fixed up, and will be ready for the next race”.
That next race was supposed to be Cornwall Speedway the following day. The team arrived at the track ready for battle, but Mother Nature had other ideas, and the rain forced track officials to cancel Sunday night’s events.
This coming weekend, Mills will return to Brockville Speedway on Saturday night, then off to Cornwall Speedway on Sunday as the 2013 season now kicks into high gear.
