COLBORNE, Ont. – June 19, 2017 – Michel Beyore’s streak of top-10 finishes at Brockville Ontario Speedway came to an end on Saturday night, but it wasn’t for the DIRTcar Sportsman Modified driver’s lack of trying. In fact, if things had continued as they were, Beyore was likely to contend for his first top-five finish of the year. However, a mechanical failure haunted Beyore’s effort and relegated him to his first DNF of the season.
“The distributor broke in the car. We were not even 10 laps in and I was already up to eighth,” Beyore said. “Those things happen and there’s nothing you can do about it.”
While Beyore was disappointed by the result, he was happy with the effort and the performance of the car. Beyore is competing on a bi-weekly schedule this season and was happy with the result from his performance two weeks ago.
“The car was working really good,” Beyore said. “I was making very good head way. Coming off of turn four, I was kind of underneath the sixth and seventh-place cars to get by them and the car quit.”
Beyore hasn’t been making wholesale changes to his Bicknell Racing Products chassis, but instead tweaking smaller aspects of the car’s setup to find more speed.
“We were close two weeks ago and this time we were bang on the money with our setup,” Beyore said. “The little changes we did make made a big difference.”
The improvements Beyore has made have been mostly on his own. He hasn’t had much help other than his crew and his own notebook.
“I’ve been doing it pretty well on my own,” Beyore said. “I have a different deal going on then most people. The setup I’m using on my car is not traditional. I’m using a lot of the stuff that I learned on the pavement.”
“You have to do what feels good for you. Maybe somebody else would get in the car and say ‘what are you doing?’ but it feels very comfortable to me. I have a feel that I’m looking for and it’s working for me.”
Getting comfortable behind the wheels was something Beyore struggled with early on this season as he adjusted to running on the dirt full-time for the first time in two decades. With a month of racing under his belt, the Colborne driver feels increasingly more natural at the controls of his Metals Plus/Millennium Crane/ Hoy’s Garage No.54a.
“I’m getting better at the wheel. There’s a difference there too,” Beyore said. “Comfortable is the big thing when you’re out there. If you’re comfortable, you’re just driving and you’re not worried about anything. Before I was always worried if I was in the way.”
Beyore certainly has not been in the way. In fact he’s turned some heads at Brockville. He’ll try to do so again when he returns to action at the Eastern Ontario bullring on Canada Day, July 1. For additional event information, visit www.brockvillespeedway.com.
