COLBORNE, Ont. – June 6, 2017 – Michel Beyore returned to DIRTcar Sportsman action last Saturday night at Brockville Ontario Speedway and earned his best finish since his return to dirt track competition last year. The Colborne, Ont. resident earned an eighth-place result in the DIRTcar Sportsman feature after starting near the rear of the field.

“We did alright,” Beyore said. “Just before halfway, me and another driver got into each other and I was down on the inside so when he cut across I spun him. Him and I stayed right there and stopped on the track, so I had to go to the back and again and come back through the field.”

The return to dirt track racing has been enjoyable for Beyore, who spent two decades racing on asphalt before making a comeback to the clay last season. Despite his issues on Saturday, Beyore has enjoyed the clean racing.

“The issues I had were just racing deals,” he explained. “It was nothing on purpose. You’re both just heading for the same piece of real estate at the same time sometimes.”

Beyore’s drive through the field on Saturday – twice – nearly earned him a seventh-place finish and could have been a top-five if not for the mid-race accident.

“I almost got seventh,” Beyore said. “I got by Jacob Herbison, but I screwed up going into the corner and I slipped up a bit. He got back by me on the last lap.”

Regardless, Beyore is happy to have made another step forward with his second straight top-10 finish.

“It’s pretty close,” Beyore said of his car. “I have a little bit more tuning to do, but it was quite a bit better than the week before. We’re making strides in the right direction and it’s showing.”

The biggest ongoing adjustment for Beyore is getting used to his new office. The centre-steer Sportsman Modified is vastly different than the OSCAAR Super Late Model he piloted on the asphalt. The dirt also brings a number of different challenges.

“I have to get a lot more consistent,” Beyore said. “I’ll do a couple of good laps and then I’ll screw one up. I’ll get to it. The biggest thing I have to watch is not to overdrive the car into the corner.”

Continued Beyore, “The biggest thing is your line of sight and what you’re looking at. You’re sitting in a whole different place. You get a whole different feeling when you go into the corner. When you’re sitting to the left and further ahead, when the car moves you don’t feel it as much.”

Regardless, Beyore was thrilled with his progress and the ability to move through the field. The increased level of competition has helped to fuel Beyore and regain the enjoyment of racing.

“You get pretty excited and pumped up when you’re making headway, so you start to drive it in even a little bit harder,” Beyore said.

In addition to his dirt competition, Beyore acted a pit crew member for his brother Max’s OSCAAR Modified race at Kawartha Speedway on Friday night. Max drove to a second-place finish.

“That was pretty good,” Michel said of his brother’s race. “I did the wrenching on his car for him. He does the wrenching on mine on Saturdays. I don’t think I’ve lost my touch too much because the car was working pretty good.”

Michel Beyore will next be in action on Saturday, June 17 at Brockville Ontario Speedway. Additional event information is available at www.brockvillespeedway.com.
