Thorold, Ontario (November 4, 2013) –Three first time champions were among the many honorees as the Merrittville Speedway Kart Club celebrated the 2013 Lucas Oil Weekly Karting Series Season Sunday November 3 at rural Thorold’s Club Castropignano.
The first of three 20th Anniversary Champions was Dalton Slack who won his first RCM Racing Equipment Performance Manufacturing Junior 1 Point Championship with 10 wins resulting in 824 points.
Joshua Hansen also earned his first Ed McPherson Construction Performance Manufacturing Junior 2 Division Title – winning 15 features over the season tallying 840 points.
Dylan Davidson topped the Superior PetroFuels Performance Manufacturing Junior Restricted Flat Head Division Point Standings. en route to his first championship in the division, Davidson won seven Features to total 802 points over the season.
In the Philbrick Farm Garden Equipment Wilder Racing Engines Performance Manufacturing Senior Animal Division, Corey Bodman won his second career title winning eight features and totaling 814 points.
Each of the 20th Anniversary Champions will receive custom jackets from Burris Racing.
Merrittville Speedway’s youngest group of karters – the Drummond Home Hardware Novice 1 and Tim Phillips Garage KC Auto Parts Novice 2 Divisions received Competition Awards, as they do not run for points. Joey Priestley, Jaedon Lawson, Kensey Kruchka, Braden Keus, Tyler Davidson, Braeden Kish, Carter Kish, Tucker Wood, Shane Keagan and Davis Grocott were all presented Competition Awards.
Merrittville Speedway’s Kart Club Member Drivers shared in the more than $10,000 in cash point fund and prize awards.
All of Merrittville Speedway’s 2013 Member Drivers in attendance were eligible to win a Invertor Generator donated by Briggs and Stratton and the winner of the $800 prize was Austyn Werstroh. Sophie Horton was the winner of a Custom Helmet Paint Job courtesy of Buzzbomb Race Paint while Braden Keus took home a new Helmet provided by Rev’s Full Throttle Powersports.
The Member Driver Draws also included prizes from Performance Manufacturing, Slack Karts, RLV Tuned Exhaust Products, Priestley Cut Tires, Buzzbomb Race Paint, Rev’s Full Throttle Powersports, RCM Racing Equipment and Burris Tire.

Bob Slack was presented the Crew Chief of the Year Award for his efforts behind his son Dalton Slack’s first championship in the Junior 1 Division. Slack – a third generation of a family rich in the Stock Car Racing Circles has made a name for himself as a former Kart Racer and Chassis manufacturer.
Jim Irvine was presented the Race Director’s Award.
The Afternoon event concluded with Race Director David Sim introducing Jeff Riley as the new Race Director for the 2014 Season.
