BARRIE, ON- Third-generation driver Melissa Bullen continued to impress in Sunset Speedway competition on May 23rd, earning a 6th place finish in her third career MIGHTY division feature event.
The 18-year old ran amongst the leaders for the bulk of the 20-lap event, displaying poise and car control beyond her three weeks of experience.
“This was the most comfortable I’ve felt in this car,” smiled Bullen post-race. “The more seat time I get, the more this begins to feel natural”
“All of this is brand new to me, so I’ve been dedicating every moment I have at the track to try and soak up information as much as I can”
“My Dad and my brother have been amazing so far,” continued Bullen. “They’ve both been so patient with me. It’s really helped me figure out what works and what doesn’t”
After entering the 2015 season without any previous racing experience, Bullen has steadily improved through all three of her appearances in Sunset’s entry-level division. When asked about her goals for her freshman campaign, Bullen is quick to note that the team’s focus throughout the season will remain on development over results.
“Dad and I sat down before the season started and talked about what we were hoping to accomplish,” explained the personable rookie. “All we’re looking to do is load the car in one piece at the end of the night, learn as much as we can and have fun”
“I’m trying not to put too much pressure on myself,” added Bullen. “If I can get a little better every single week, that would make for a pretty good season. This division seems to get better and better every Saturday. There’s a ton of talent on this roster – it’s a lot of fun to be a part of”
“I can’t thank my family enough for all the hard work they put into this program. We’re just going to keep working hard and see what we can do to keep this car at the front every weekend.”
Melissa Bullen’s 2015 season is made possible thanks to the support of The Canadian Grill, Smoochie’s Cakery, Dale Farren & Son, Wix Filters, Blissful Bloom Birth Doula, Redline Signs & Apparel and Permatex.
