LONDON, ON- Delaware Speedway Late Model champion Matt Pritiko will enter September 20th’s Great Canadian Race intent on winning the speedway’s Crown Jewel event for the second straight season.
The former Grand Am Series standout has enjoyed a banner year in the Late Model division, clinching both the Delaware Speedway weekly title as well as Flamboro Speedway’s Grisdale Triple Crown championship.
“2014 has been an incredible year for our whole team”, says Pritiko. “It’s been a tonne of work, but looking back on what we’ve been able to accomplish makes it all worthwhile”
Pritiko recently clinched his first career Delaware title on August 30th – after overcoming potentially terminal engine troubles in pre-race practice – and says his status as champion serves as his greatest motivation.
“It’s a privilege to enter Delaware’s biggest event of the season as the champion”, explains Pritiko. “I want to show everybody just how good this team can be. I know there’s going to be a lot of out-of-town drivers in the field, and I want to do my best to represent Delaware well and keep the visitors in my rearview mirror”
As defending race winner, Pritiko knows the focus will be on him come race day. A fact that, he says, doesn’t bother him in the slightest.
“I have no problem being the guy everyone’s watching. I don’t feel the pressure. We’re just going to unload on race day like we always do, go to work and do everything we can to make this No. 21 Global Warranty Toyota as fast as possible”
“Winning the Great Canadian was the best feeling in the world. It was one of the defining moments in my career. And being able to compete all season as the reigning Great Canadian champion was an honour. I’m not ready to give that up. I want it for another year”
