WALKERTON, ON- After an off-season worth of preparations and strategizing, Ltd. Late Model veteran ‘Marvellous’ Marvin Freiburger is counting the days until the start of the Sauble Speedway season.
Freiburger will once again pilot his iconic blue No. 37 in a fulltime campaign for the 2015 season – with hopes of securing his first career division championship.
“I can’t remember the last time I was this excited to get to the speedway,” beams the personable veteran. “We’ve put in more hours this off-season than ever before. Every year it feels like we’re more prepared for opening night – and this is no different”
“We had a great end to the season in 2014, and I’m hoping we can pick that momentum up on opening night,” continues Freiburger. “I’ve learned so much since I first strapped into one of these cars and I feel like every time we roll through that pit gate it’s an opportunity to apply the lessons we’ve picked up”
For 2015, Freiburger finds himself matched against a bevy of veteran Sauble contenders including Jason Parker, Scott McTeer and Tom Gibbons. When asked what it will take to keep ahead of his competitors, it’s clear how much respect Freiburger has for the rest of the division.
“You have to be as close to perfect as you can get. That’s the only way to win a championship here,” responds the former Rookie of the Year titlist. “These guys are so good that you can’t give them an inch – and our schedule is short enough that you can’t have a bad night”
“Every time you back off the pit pad, your goal has to be to put forth the very best effort you have, because if you don’t, you’ll be left behind”
But despite the team’s hopes for a championship, Freiburger is adamant that his goal – week in and week out – remains the same as its always been.
“Every season since we started racing, we’ve donated all of our winnings to Easter Seals and this season will be no different,” continues Freiburger. “So we’re going to come out and try to pick up as many positions as we can, then donate the money back to Easter Seals. We already have a record-breaking 96 Sponsors on the car that believe in this cause just as much as we do”
“We just want to come to the speedway and make memories with our family and friends. If we win a championship – that will be fantastic. But, our main goal is to have fun and give as much as possible to helping kids with physical disabilities succeed.”
Sauble Speedway will open up their 2015 season on May 16th with a full card of racing featuring the Late Models, Thunder Cars and Four Cylinders. All event details can be found at www.SaubleSpeedway.ca.
Marvin’s wife Angela will host a special Pre-Pit Party, Pit Party & Grandstand Party on May 16th at the speedway. T-Shirts will be sold for $15.00 at the Pre-Pit Party starting at 4 pm on the South side of the Speedway … Look for the signs. ALL money raised on this very Special Night will go to Easter Seals.
The team is actively looking for volunteers to aide in their efforts to raise money for Easter Seals – those interested can contact Angela at home 519-881-1379 or on her cell 519-889-2349. Team members will meet new people, make new friends and support a phenomenal cause.
