WALKERTON, ON- After weeks spent on the sidelines, multi-time Sauble Speedway feature winner ‘Marvellous’ Marvin Freiburger is ready to get back to action in Week 2 of the Sauble Ltd. Late Model season this Saturday, June 13th.
“It feels like it’s been forever since we’ve rolled this car out,” says Freiburger. “I’m feeling like a kid counting the days until Christmas. We had a strong run in the season opener, so I’m looking forward to getting back out there and improving on that”
Freiburger last saw action in his team’s Pro Late Model during APC United Late Model Series competition at Sunset Speedway on May 23rd. Unfortunately for Marvin, a strong qualifying performance did not translate to an equally impressive finish – as a mid-race collision left his car badly damaged.
“That was, without question, the hardest hit I’ve ever taken in a race car,” admits the charismatic wheelman. “As soon as the car stopped moving, my heart sunk, because I knew we had taken a lot of damage”
“The Pro Late Model is in for a little bit of surgery right now – so it’ll be a few weeks before it’s back out,” continues Freiburger. “Because of that, we’ve been able to focus all of our attention on our Ltd. Late Model. We’ve been toying with some setup stuff and bouncing ideas off of one another the last few weeks, and I think some of the stuff we’ve come up with is going to be very effective”
‘Marvellous’ will look for a strong follow-up performance to help erase the memory of his frustrating DNF in the APC Series opener.
I want to get back on the racetrack,” says Freiburger. “I think the best way to move past a wreck like that is to get back out there and put it behind you. This weekend is my 34th wedding anniversary and I couldn’t think of anywhere else in the world I would sooner be to celebrate it than Sauble Speedway. We’ll be raising money for Easter Seals all day long – and I encourage all of our friends, fans and supporters to come out and celebrate with us. We’ll be accepting donations and giving away great prizes all night”
“We may not have had luck on our side in our last race, but that’s not at all indicative of how good our team is,” continues the fan-favourite. “We’re as motivated as we’ve ever been. This Limited Late is a hotrod, and I can’t wait to remind everyone – including our team – of how good we can be. This Sauble division is tough, but I don’t think there are many teams out there that work harder than we do. We’ve put a lot of hours into this car in the last few weeks – and I can’t wait to see them pay off this Saturday.”
