@CanAmMidgets • @PtboSpeedway • Peterborough, ON (June 13, 2015)- Taking his second feature win in a row, Mack DeMan took the checkered flag for the Lucas Oil Can-Am Midgets at Peterborough Speedway Saturday night.
After braking a front axle before he could start his heat race, DeMan and his father Peter, went to work on the repairs to ready the car for the ‘B’ Main. DeMan wasted no time taking the lead and the win. Starting 8th in the ‘A’ Main, DeMan, easily worked his way through the field to take the lead on lap 15 from a very strong running Darren McLennan and the win.
“After braking my front axle before I could join the field for my heat race, it made me all the more determined to win the ‘B’ and get that ‘A’ Main win as well. The car was on rails from that point on, thanks to my dad, said DeMan. I want to thank our sponsor Lucas Oil for their continued support as well as all the fans here tonight. I love racing at Peterborough Speedway.”
Lucas Smith sat on the pole for the beginning of the 25 lap ‘A’ Main feature with Adrian Stahle in his new TQ #50 on the outside. Stahle grabbed the lead coming out of Turn 3 on lap one and set the pace for the rest of the field. Smith hung on to second place followed by Rob Neely. Todd Cresswell and Darren McLennan filled out the top five.
Stahle had a battle with Smith for that top position. Ryan Fraser grabbed the spot from Cresswell as McLennan was up to Neely for the position. Neely got loose while heading into Turn 2 and spun bringing out the first caution.
At the restart things changed quickly as Smith took the lead followed by Stahle and McLennan. Fraser now had DeMan on his tail. McLennan charged past Stahle for the lead as Smith fell back to fourth behind Fraser. McLennan opened up a sizable lead as Stahle and Fraser fought for second place. DeMan was now in striking distance of the leaders after passing Fraser. Brandon Zavarella, in his best run of the season, joined the top five. McLennan held the point as DeMan fought with Stahle for two laps for second place.
At the halfway point McLennan now had DeMan knocking on his door. With one quick smooth move DeMan took the lead in Turn 3 with 10 laps to go.
McLennan kept his strong charge but couldn’t catch DeMan. Fraser, Stahle and Zavarella kept in a tight pack for some excellent racing. Zavarella made a strong charge and passed Stahle for fourth. DeMan had a 10 car lead over the field as the final laps ran down.
With the final lap in sight, Cresswell and James Marche spun in turn two, bringing out the caution. With the green out for the final restart, DeMan took charge of the lead and held on for the win. McLennan finished 2nd followed by Fraser, Zavarella, and Smith. Heats were won by McLennan and Stahle. The ‘B’ Main was won by DeMan.
Of Note…Darren Dryden, driving TQ #43, for the first time in a Lucas Oil Can-Am Midget, ran a great race, finishing eighth.
