FREELTON< ON (October 4, 2017)- While poised for a strong run on Sunday afternoon at Flamboro Speedway, Luke Gignac was involved in a late-race incident.

Gignac began the weekend by finishing fifth in his first heat, followed by a runner-up in the second qualifier.

Starting seventh for the 30-lap feature, he would drop back to eighth in the early stages, remaining there until the first caution at Lap 10 for an incident on the backstretch. The restart saw him drop back another spot to ninth, with a second yellow flag waving at Lap 18.

The restart gave him an opportunity to move forward, moving up to eighth, and looking for seventh when the caution flew for a spin ahead of him in turn two. Restarting seventh, he was able to pass Tolton on the restart to move up to sixth, before the next yellow flag with four laps to go. Although he was fast on the restart, contact resulted between him and Reinhart, resulting in Reinhart going around. Gignac was then sent to the tail of the field as an involved car.

Restarting last, he would battle hard, ultimately crossing the finish line in ninth for his ninth top-10 of 2017.

The top-10 was enough to jolt him up to the top of the points standings, nine markers ahead of Chris Milwain entering the final event of 2017.
