PETERBOROUGH, ON (October 13, 2017)- A third-place finish in the Autumn Colours Classic worked out perfectly for Luke Gignac and ADAMS Motorsports as it allowed the Orillia, Ontario-based team to clinch the 2017 OSCAAR Modified Championship.
The weekend didn’t start off cleanly for Gignac, though, who went for a slide through the grass on the opening lap of his first heat before placing second. He then rebounded to pick up a win in the second qualifier.
Starting on pole virtue of his Chase for the Colours victory, he led the first 16 laps before fading back to second behind eventual race winner Gary McLean. He continued to battle hard, fading back to third on Lap 35, before crossing the line in third.
“It’s just great to be here,” Giganc said. “It’s unbelievable to win a championship in a class of guys like this. Before this race, the car wouldn’t start – but two teams stepped up, and the 8 (Gary McLean) team and the 56 (Jase Cornell) team. They stepped up so I have to thank them as without their help, I wouldn’t have made it out here and won the championship.”
