PORT ELGIN, ON- Just days after an impressive performance in Sunset Speedway’s Spring Derby 100, Nick Goetz has announced his entry into May 10th’s APC 100. The extended-distance event will mark Sunset’s lone Pro Late Model show in 2014, and will pit Goetz against some of the top ranked drivers in the province.
“This team has all the confidence in the world after last Sunday”, exclaims Goetz. “We rolled a brand new chassis out of the box at the Spring Derby and ran up front all afternoon long. As soon as the checkered flag dropped, I knew that we were going to come back on the 10th and try out luck against the Pro Late Models”
The event has been billed one of the Spring’s biggest, offering a $5,000-to-win purse that’s likely to draw a bevy of divisional heavyweights from across Ontario.
Undeterred by the talent-laden entry list, Goetz points out, “The only way to improve is to run against the best competition out there. This team has never shied away from competition. We don’t mind the underdog status”
As impressive as his 12th place finish at the 100-lap Spring Derby was, Goetz remains realistic in his goals for the 2014 season, underlining a strategy of ‘knowledge over positions’.
“I’m here to learn, more than anything”, says the third-year competitor. “Too often you see guys in their first few seasons come out, drive over their head, wreck their equipment and then they’re out of the sport. I want to be around for a long time. I hope to be a champion in this sport one day, and I know it all starts with how much I learn now. So if I lose a spot, but end up learning a lesson, I’m alright with that – for now”
“I went from the grandstands straight to the driver’s seat”, continues Goetz. “So, for me, to be able to race alongside guys like Jason Shaw, Mike Bentley and Jason Hathaway, it’s an honour. I couldn’t ask for a better way to develop my skillset”.
The APC 100 is scheduled for Saturday May 10th at Sunset Speedway, with a start time of 5:00pm and a rain date of Sunday May 11th. Gate times and ticket prices can be found at www.SunsetSpeedway.ca
