MUSKOKA, ON- It will be the first step in a season referred to as a “Back to Basics” schedule for Daniel Bois. The 2014 Lucas Oil TQ Can-Am Midgets lid lifter at Flamboro Speedway, an opportunity to return to a series that has seen Bois claim more than his fair share of checkered flags.
“I can’t wait to get back behind the wheel of a midget”, beamed Bois at a recent Flamboro testing session. “There’s something about these cars that brings out the best in me. As a driver, I feel most at home behind the wheel of a TQ Midget”
Bois has good reason to be comfortable. The second-generation driver captured the 2008 Can-Am Midget championship, and is widely regarded as one of the most talented veterans on the roster. After drifting away from fulltime competition to focus on his Stock Car career, Bois has returned fulltime for the 2014 season.
“A return to the club just feels like I’m coming home”, admitted Bois. “I think this first race is going to be incredibly important for our program. Not so much to send a message, because I feel as though our numbers speak for themselves, but rather to properly represent Mike Schmidt and London Recreational Racing. Flamboro is London Rec’s hometrack, and I would love more than anything to join him in victory lane for the first time this season”
Bois admits, a victory at Flamboro can be easier said than done at times. The flat 1/3 mile oval is regarded as one of the more difficult speedways on the schedule.
“It’s incredibly tough to pass at Flamboro”, said Bois. “Restarts are key there. If can catch guys sleeping on a restart, you’ll find yourself picking up a bunch of spots in relatively short order. It saves you the aggravation of a long-drawn out side-by-side battle”
When asked his strategy for the event, Bois made little bones about his plans.
“We’re going to look to get to the front early. It’s only a 25-lap race, which means you don’t have to worry about preserving your tires. We’ll be looking to get on the throttle as early as possible, finding a couple of holes and making a run for the front”
Daniel Bois’ 2014 debut will be supported by London Recreational, ProWraps, Bennett GM, Castrol Edge, Thermal Technology, MBRP, Auto Glym and Project Track Champion.
Saturday’s event at Flamboro Speedway is set for a 6:00 start. Gate times and ticket prices can be found at www.FlamboroSpeedway.net. Fans can follow Daniel on Twitter @DBAutosport.
