SAUBLE BEACH, ON- Former Sauble Speedway regular Nick Goetz returned to ‘the Beach’ on July 12th for the opening round of the Sauble vs. Sunset ‘Home and Home Series’. After fighting through a tight condition in practice, ‘Livewire’ earned a 6th place finish in the 50-lap A Main.
“I had quite a few laps around Sauble from when I ran here weekly, and that definitely came in handy”, reflected Goetz.
“The car was so tight in practice and qualifying, it just didn’t want to roll the center at all. I had to get up on the wheel and muscle the car around, which is the exact opposite of what you want to do here with a crate motor”
After making a litany of changes prior to the feature event, Goetz found his way to the top-10, eventually reeling in a 6th place finish in his Sauble return.
“Our car woke right up at the halfway mark, we were really good in the second half of this race”, explained Goetz. “Had the rain not cut the race short, I think we definitely would have had something for the top-5”
“It feels great to be able to come home and put on a show for my family and friends that aren’t able to make it down to Sunset on a weekly basis”, continued Goetz. “It also lets me know that we’re evolving as a team and getting closer to where we need to be. One year ago, there’s no way I would have been able to work through the tight condition that we had today. I’m getting better every time out, and that’s all I can ask for”
After a tumultuous start to his 2014 campaign, Goetz made it quite clear what the turning point was for his NG Motorsports team.
“Getting out first feature win at Peterborough a couple weeks ago really set us on the right course. With the start to the year that I had, it left me a lot more timid than I really wanted to be. I was second guessing myself. But, winning the ‘Chase for the Colours’ breathed new life into our program. It’s a massive shot in the arm for us”
“Now that we know what it’s like to run at the front, we can’t wait to get back there. If we could get a win at Sunset before the end of the year, it would mean the world to us. This team is improving with leaps and bounds every week, and I can’t thank my guys enough”
Nick Goetz will be back in action this Saturday, July 19th at Sunset Speedway for a 50-lap Limited Late Model ‘Super Series’ event. Gate times and ticket prices can be found at www.SunsetSpeedway.ca.
