STAYNER, ON- 2-time OSCAAR Super Late Model champion Brandon Watson will return to action with the ARCA/CRA Super Series this weekend, as he readies himself for the 2014 edition of the ‘Battle at Berlin 251’ at Berlin Raceway on Saturday, July 19th.
“We’ve struggled at Berlin in the past, but we’ve learned a lot in our last few races there”, explained Watson. “I’m confident we can get this monkey off our back this weekend. A strong run at Berlin could really help turn our program in the right direction for the second half of the season”
Though Watson has yet to find victory lane at Berlin, he feels as though the race’s extended distance compliments his style.
“I’m a ‘long run’ driver. I prefer races that are 200-laps or longer. A lot of the races we’ve struggled with are short 100-lap dashes, where it’s tough to find your rhythm. In a 251-lap race, I think we’ll be able to settle in to a groove and find where the car is most comfortable”
“Strategy is going to have a lot to do with who comes out on top this weekend”, continued Watson. “You have to keep your nose clean and stay out of the wrecks. It’s a 10-tire race, so that alone comes with its own set of planning and strategy. No one’s going to win this on the first lap, that’s for sure”
The third-generation star – in his first full campaign with the ARCA/CRA Super Series – is hoping to reinvigorate his program with an impressive run at Berlin, after struggling in his last three appearances.
“We’ve had great cars this season, and just haven’t had the luck to seal the deal”, shrugged Watson. “It’s all about staying positive. We know that we’re due for a good run, and we’re excited to turn our year around. The Battle at Berlin is one of the tour’s biggest races, and it’s a great opportunity to remind our competitors just exactly what we’re capable of”
