Stroud, ON (June 13, 2017)- Everything came together perfectly for Lisa DeLeeuw on Saturday night at Sunset Speedway, as she picked her first career heat victory.
Starting up front, she was able to hold off a race-long charge from DY Racing teammate Eric Yorke and Dave Crumbie en route to the checkered flag for the win. She then backed it up with a sixth-place finish in her second qualifier.
Starting second for the 25-lap feature, she’d battle side-by-side with Josh Bullen for second off the drop of the green flag, clearing him for the spot on Lap 3. She was able to remain there till Lap 7, when she was passed by Doug Butler. Now running third. she continued to run among the front runners, eventually getting bumped back to the fifth spot by Lap 12. She would fall another four spots on Lap 14, running just inside the top-10 in ninth. She’d remain there till the caution flew with 10 laps to go for a single-car spin in turn two.
Restarting ninth, she would not get the restart warranted, eventually falling back to 15th before the checkered flag flew.
While the result does not match how she ran throughout the 25-lap event, it does officially mark her best finish of the year, following a pair of 17th-place finishes the past two weeks. She will hope to continue improving this weekend on Saturday, June 17, in the sixth night of points of competition.
