Stroud, ON (June 28, 2017)- Despite sustaining damage in qualifying, Lisa DeLeeuw rebounded for a top-20 finish in the feature.
The night did not start off pretty for the DY Racing driver, as contact in her first heat resulted in a broken tie rod, sending her to the pits at the halfway mark. She would then place sixth in her second qualifier.
With a poor showing in her heats, she was forced to run the b-main, starting in the fifth position. She ran fifth through the early portion of the event, getting alongside Doug Wilman for fourth at Lap 5, completing the pass a lap later. She remained fourth till the caution flew with two laps to go for the third-place runner spinning around, allowing DeLeeuw to move up to third.
She would battle hard on the restart, holding off Eric Rainey to cross the finish in third and qualify for the main event.
Starting 21st in the 25-lap feature, she made up ground in the early laps, running 18th as of the first caution at Lap 7. She then would make three more passes to move up to 15th by the second caution at Lap 17.
She would battle hard throughout the final nine laps, though ultimately lost a couple spots to cross the finish line in 17th.
For DeLeeuw, the finish allows her to keep her streak of top-20 finishes going, following her best career finish of 13th on June 10. She currently sits 12th in points, just 17 markers behind Bob Phinnemore for 10th. She will hope to continue improving this weekend on Saturday, July 1 in the eighth night of points competition.
