PORT COLBORNE, ONTARIO… Gary Lindberg from Ridgeway, Ontario returned to victory lane for his fourth Cosco Haulage DIRTcar Sportsman main on Verge Insurance Night at the New Humberstone Speedway.
“The Roadrunner” Rob Ledingham from Port Colborne, Ontario claimed his first Peters Excavating UMP/DIRTcar Late Model victory of the season. Dan Ferguson from Brighton, Ontario claimed his first TUSA Mr. Dirt Modified Lite victory in the tour’s second appearance of the season at Humberstone. Tim Zack from Dain City, Ontario waited 17 years to claim the win in the Modified division of the Vintage Cars while Gordie Edwards from Ft. Erie, Ontario claimed the Sportsman Vintage Car victory. Hilary Haegens from Fenwick, Ontario claimed her second win of the season in the Mike Knapp Ford Pro 4 Trucks while Sam Iftody from Fenwick, Ontario claimed a “six pack” after he picked up his sixth win of the season in the Frontier Auto Dismantlers Pure Stocks.
Matt Sharpe and Ron MacAuley led the field of Cosco Haulage DIRTcar Sportsman to the green flag for their 25 lap feature with MacAuley showing the way.
Jeff Armstrong went three wide going into turns three and four and Armstrong took over the lead. Jordan Cosco had front end problems on the Cosco Haulage 17c and came to a stop in turn four to bring out the caution on lap two.
On the restart it was Armstrong continuing to show the way with Adam Leslie, coming off a win Saturday at Merrittville, in second with divisional points leader Gary Lindberg racing in third. Adam Leslie took over the race lead after a lap six caution and Gary Lindberg was able get around Armstrong for second and after four laps of going side by side, Lindberg took over the race lead.
At the race’s halfway point, Lindberg continued to show the way with Brad Rouse taking over second with qualifying winner Darrell Farraway moving into third with Leslie and defending Mr. DIRTcar Sportsman Champion Cody McPherson racing in fifth place.
Leslie rode the inside barriers through one and two and lost fourth spot to McPherson and Greg Panunte. Panunte was able to get around McPherson for fourth as the leaders hit lap traffic. Gary Lindberg was able to pull away from Brad Rouse to pick up his fourth win of the season. Darrell Farraway would finish in third and was followed to the line by Greg Panunte and Cody McPherson.
Bill Gill and Rob Pietz was on the front row for the Peters Excavating UMP/DIRTcar Late Models to the green flag and the drivers made contact and collected Mark Czuba, Darren Peters, and divisional points leader Ken Winfield. Pietz and Czuba were able to continue.
On take two of the start, it was “the Roadrunner” Rob Ledingham showing the way in the Cosco Haulage 17c machine with Jorden Peters in second and Paul Grigsby in third, Grigsby return to the speedway after blowing an engine a few weeks ago. Jorden Peters wasted no time applying the pressure on Ledingham but the veteran was able to keep the lead. Ledingham was able to pull away and had a one second lead over Jorden Peters to claim the win for the “Roadrunner”.
Jason Corliss and Dan Ferguson led the TUSA Mr. Dirt Modified Lite Tour to the double green flags of starter John Veach and it was Corliss leading the opening circuit.
Ferguson was able to take the lead away from Corless on lap six with Corless and Derek Wagner running in the top three. Ferguson was still the leader at the races halfway point with Corless, Wagner, Paul Klager and Josh Sliter racing in the top five.
Klager was able to sneak around Wagner for third with five to go just as Corliss hit the front stretch wall. Klager went from fourth to second in a lap as Wagner took over third from Corliss. Ferguson would drive to the win over Klager, Wagner, Josh Sliter and Tim Anderson completing the top five.
In the second appearance of the season for the Vintage Cars, Tim Zack and Rick St. Pierre led the field to the green flag with Zack leading the way. St. Pierre put the pressure on Zack for the race lead as the leaders hit lap traffic throughout the 15 lap feature distance. St. Pierre “threw everything including the kitchen sink” and went to the outside in turns one and two but Zack was able to pick up the win in the Modifieds while Gordie Edwards claimed the Vintage Car Sportsman feature win.
Taylor Vanderzanden and Hilary Haegens were on the front row for the 15 lap affair for the Mike Knapp Ford Pro 4 Trucks and it was Vanderzanden showing the way. Colton Ledingham brought out the races first caution on lap two after spinning in turn four.
On the restart it was Vanderzanden continuing to show the way. Hilary Haegens took over the lead on lap three exiting turn two. Sam Pennacchio drove to the outside of Hilary Haegens to take over the race lead just as Adam Nichols and Tony Berradocco came together on the front stretch. On the restart Haegens returned the favor and went to the outside and drove around Pennacchio to take back the race lead.
After several laps of side by side action, Pennacchio regained the lead on lap 13. Mike Toovey went three wide and tried
Marcel Beauregard and Brad Booker led the field of Frontier Auto Dismantler Pure Stocks to the green flag for their feature event and it was Beauregard leading the opening circuits.
Multi-time feature winner Sam Iftody wasted no time getting to the head of the class as Iftody went upstairs and took the lead on lap six. After a caution on lap 10 slowed the field down, Iftody continued to show the way and Iftody would pull away from the rest of the field to claim his sixth win of the season. Marcel Beauregard would finish in second and he would be followed to the line by Brad Alward, Brad Booker and Kyle Tomaski.
HUMBERSTONE NOTES: Car count report for Sunday July 14th: 22 Sportsman, 10, Late Models, 11 Mod Lites, 13 Pro 4 Trucks, 9 Pure Stocks and 12 Vintage Cars for a total of 77 racecars signing in pitside. Final checkered flag flew at 9:19pm after qualifying got underway at 6:05pm.
Racing returns to the Port Colborne oval on Sunday July 21st as Boltworks Industrial Fasteners Presents the DIRTcar Modifieds, Late Models, Street Stocks, Mini Stocks, Pure Stocks plus the Vintage Cars. Also, there will be a Kids Poster Contest. All kids are encouraged to draw a poster of their favorite driver! Racing will start promptly at 6:00pm with both the Pits and Grandstand gates opening at 4:00pm.
