CORNWALL, ON (July 6, 2025) – For the second time in less than 24 hours, Shane Pecore showed why he’s the driver to beat in the DIRTcar Sportsman Series North Region. The Cornwall, ON driver took the lead from Dave Rogers on a Lap 14 restart and never looked back, winning Sunday’s 50-lap Feature at Cornwall Motor Speedway.
Pecore capped off a perfect weekend, winning all three races he entered over the past three days and earning his second consecutive North Region championship. He claimed the title by 26 points over Gavin Eisele.
“We might head up to the bar a little early and start celebrating,” Pecore said. “What a race car. What a streak we’re on. We kind of hit on something there. It’s just been phenomenal.
“Especially on a day race like this, where the track is unpredictable, [the car’s] usually not that good. But we were good tonight.”
Rogers grabbed the lead at the drop of the green flag, moving ahead of Jacob Nadeau and Donovan Lussier through Turn 2. Behind them, Pecore made steady progress, taking third from Eisele before a caution flew on Lap 8 for Elliot Gamache’s flat tire.
On the restart, Pecore quickly moved into second, passing Lussier and setting his sights on Rogers. A caution on Lap 13 set up the race’s pivotal moment. When the green flag returned, Pecore surged ahead of Rogers and never relinquished the top spot.
As the race settled into a long green-flag stretch, Pecore began to stretch his lead. Lussier, who had moved into second on Lap 15, began reeling him in through lapped traffic with 15 laps remaining. But his run ended abruptly when he tangled with a lapped car, bringing out the final caution on Lap 39.
From there, Pecore pulled away to secure his 13th career Series win.
“Just really proud of my small team,” Pecore said. “It’s been an incredible weekend.”
Nadeau crossed the line second, his best career finish in the Series and first podium appearance. The Yamaska, QC driver inherited the spot after Lussier’s incident.
Bobby Herrington finished third, marking his best Series result of the season. The Elginburg, ON driver said the unusual daytime conditions didn’t bother him.
“We didn’t really know what to think about the racetrack because it looked really bitey,” Herrington said. “We don’t race in the day really much. We can see really well.”
Eisele came home fourth, with Rogers rounding out the top five.
