BRAMPTON, ON- Former Flamboro Speedway regular Lane Zardo has confirmed he will be in the field when Flamboro Speedway hosts it’s Canada Day Thunder Car Invitational on Wednesday, July 1st.
“I haven’t raced a car at Flamboro in 5 years – so I’ve just been itching to get back there,” says Zardo. “When I left in 2010 – I was tied for second in [championship] points. I haven’t raced there since Oktoberfest 2010. Hopefully I still remember how to get around the track”
The Brampton, ON-based entrant will find himself pitted against a bevy of stars from across Ontario, as well as strong contingent of Flamboro Speedway’s hometrack regulars.
“I’ve been gone so long, I might just tuck in behind one of the regulars in practice for a bit of a refresher,” laughs Zardo. “I know Chenoweth and Collison have put together a pretty awesome team this season, so whoever’s in the 89C on Wednesday might be the one to follow during hot laps”
“Things might be a little different – but I can’t imagine the place has changed much in five years. I just can’t wait to get back”
For Zardo, a victory at his former hometrack would carry added significance for a number of reasons – both professional and personal.
“Any race win is a highlight for me – it doesn’t matter where it is,” explains the third-generation standout. “Wether it’s a Saturday at Sunset or a Wednesday at Flamboro – the amount of preparation and work to get to victory lane is the same. I make sure to enjoy every single win as though it’s my last. As long as there is a single racer worth beating in the field – it’s something I want to add to my resume”
“Besides that, I know there will be a lot of people in the stands that I don’t get to race in front of very often,” continues Zardo. “People that I grew up with, raced Karts with or went to school in Hamilton with. They aren’t able to make it to Sunset very often – so I’d love nothing more than to put a show on for them and show what our team is capable of doing.”
