TROIS RIVIERES, QC- In just his second start of the 2014 NASCAR Canadian Tire Series presented by Mobil 1 season, veteran Kerry Micks led a number of laps before coming home with a podium finish at Circuit de Trois-Rivieres’ ‘JuliaWine.com Le 50 Tours’.
“This car just seemed to get better as the weekend went on”, said Micks post-race. “We were faster in the second practice than we were in the first, then we were faster in qualifying than we were in practice. Our Micks Motorsports team did everything they had to in order to give us a competitive piece”
Micks’ No. 02 Johnsonville Sausage/Leland Industries/Cordon Bleu Ford qualified 4th overall in a stout field of 33 competitors, and raced amongst the leaders through the entirety of the event.
The Mount Albert, ON driver wasted little time working his way to the lead upon the drop of the green, snatching the top spot on lap-5 before slipping back to the runner-up position on lap-20.
Micks raced within the top-3 until the race’s dying stages, and appeared ready for a late-race push when the race was ruled completed a lap from the projected finish, after a lengthy red flag due to a crash on the first attempt at a Green-White-Checker finish.
“Brakes are so important on a course like this”, explained Micks. “Street courses – especially Trois Rivieres – can really use up your equipment if you’re not careful. We didn’t have that problem today. Our brakes didn’t fade at all. The car was fantastic right down to the last lap”
“We led 15-laps and then dropped back, hoping to save the car for a run late in the race”, continued Micks. “There was a lot left in us at the time of the Green-White-Checker. There’s no doubt in my mind we would have had a chance to race for the win had the event not been called early. It’s disappointing, because we had a very good car today and didn’t get the finish that I feel we deserved”
With his Circuit de Trois-Rivieres podium in hand, Micks has yet to finish outside of the top-6 in his two NASCAR Canadian Tire Series appearances this season.
Kerry will return to the driver’s seat on August 31st, when Pinty’s presents the Clarington 200 at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park.
The Micks Motorsports 2014 campaign is powered by Johnsonville, Leland Industries, Dickies, Castrol Canada, Cordon Bleu, Cathcart Trucking, Thor Motors, Sam Ester, Candy Tree, Seguin Marina and Beyond Digital Imaging.
