Bowmanville, ON (September 3, 2017)- DJ Kennington and the #17 Castrol Edge Dodge team scooped up another top-ten finish during round number 11 of the 2017 NASCAR Pinty’s Series this past weekend at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park (CTMP). Kennington battled the elements early and crossed the finish line ninth in the 200km event on Sunday afternoon.
It was a very fast #17 Castrol Edge Dodge right from the first lap of practice on the famed road course in Bowmanville, Ontario and Kennington would claim the fourth starting spot for the race on Sunday.
“We hardly made any changes to the car, the team did a great job preparing it and we were fast” said Kennington.
Showers throughout the morning meant the race began under wet conditions and drivers started with grooved tires rather than the traditional racing slicks and the #17 Castrol Edge Doge was a handful early on.

“It was really slippery,” said Kennington. “Just to stay on course you had to be really careful,” he added.
Kennington would fall several positions in the field before conditions changed and the #17 Castrol Edge Dodge team called him to pit road and made the switch back to slicks.

“It was a different car after that” said the driver. “It behaved the way we expected to once the track dried out”.
Throughout the race Kennington had spirited battles for position with others and managed to claw his way back to a ninth place finish, his tenth top-ten in eleven races this season. DJ has completed more race laps at CTMP than any other series driver (now at 810) and with the result he also moves to within one point of third in the overall championship standings.
“Great job by the whole team” stated Kennington. “We were really good all day once we got the dry track and we’re looking to bust through with a win in one of the final two races,” he added.
Kennington’s workday was not done however. In addition to competing in the Pinty’s Series he was recruited by Gaunt Brothers Racing to compete in the NASCAR Truck Series event the same day. Kennington would start the race in 17th and run his #96 Castrol Edge Truck in the top-ten at times before bringing home a 14th place finish.
“Marty Gaunt and this group are such quality people, I was thrilled for the chance to work with them again” said Kennington. “They gave me great equipment and I’m glad we gained some spots during the race, would have loved a top-ten though” he added.
DJ Kennington and the #17 Castrol Edge Dodge team are back in action this coming Saturday September 9th at the Autodrome St. Eustache.
