INNISFIL, ON- OSCAAR Super Late Model sophomore Kelly Balson turned in a career-best performance in Sunday’s 4th annual Lucie Aylwin Memorial at Sunset Speedway. The 2014 Rookie of the Year led a multitude of laps through the first half of the race, further establishing himself as a contender for the 2015 tour championship.
“We knew coming into this weekend that we had something completely different than we did last season,” explained Balson post-race. “Graham Annis and Graham Flett have worked tirelessly on this car to give us a program capable of contending. I really and truly can’t give them enough credit”
“This team made some pretty big changes to this car after qualifying last night,” continued Balson. “We were the last team out of the pit area last night – and I really can’t thank these guys enough. Between the Grahams, Ryan Kimball and Brandon Johnston they worked their absolute hearts out. Had we not made those changes, we would’ve been far worse”
The finish eclipses Balson’s previous best result – a third-place finish at Barrie Speedway in June 2014 – and serves as a phenomenal motivator for a London Recreational Racing-backed team intent on establishing themselves as weekly contenders.
“We said to ourselves coming into this event that we were no longer happy with just being ‘good enough’,”said Balson. “We learned a lot of things the hard way last season – but all of them have made us better”
“I’m surrounded by some of the best young minds in the sport right now, and we’re more than ready to run at the front on a weekly basis. The guys that I have in my corner are the best that I could ever ask for – and I look forward to seeing what we can accomplish together this season.”
Kelly Balson will return to action with the OSCAAR Super Late Model Tour in Round 2 of the 2015 season at Flamboro Speedway on May 30th.
Marketing support for Kelly Balson’s sophomore tour campaign is provided by London Recreational Racing, Cochrane Automotive, Brandon’s Landscapes, Castrol Edge, Bennett Chevrolet of Cambridge and GTA Racing Design.
